摘要： A resettable, combination dial lock assembly has a housing, a shackle, and a dial with indicia thereon. A subset of the indicia defines an unlocking combination. The dial is rotatable relative to the housing to positions corresponding to each of the indica subset. A selector is coupled to the dial. Combination members rotate upon rotation of the dial and are each associated with a respective one of the subset of indicia comprising the combination. Rotary members are coupled to the combination members, wherein rotation of the combination members causes rotation of the rotary members. The rotary members and combination members allow entry of the combination by rotating the dial in any direction and independent of a number of rotations made by the dial for activation of the selector to select each of the indicia comprising the combination to unlock the lock assembly.

The locking mechanism is movable from a locked condition to an unlocked condition to permit movement of the shackle from the retracted position to the extended position. The dial includes an outer ring portion surrounding a stationary lock body face and rotatable with respect to the face, and a locking mechanism engaging portion disposed between the lock body face and the rear side of the lock body, wherein successive rotation of the dial to a series of one or more predetermined rotational positions causes the locking mechanism to move from the locked condition to the unlocked condition.

Each of the signals indicates to a user that a respective magnet is adjacent a respective sensor, thus assisting a user in recovering a lost combination. A rotary lock includes a dial which rotates a drive cam, which in turn rotates several wheels to their unlocking positions. One magnet for each wheel is provided on the drive cam. Each magnet communicates with one sensor provided on a master key, which also includes signals, indicating that a respective magnet is adjacent a respective sensor, thus assisting a user in recovering a lost combination.

A method of opening a combination lock with a tool, the combination lock having an opening sequence consisting of clockwise and counterclockwise rotations of a non finger manipulable lock opening component, the method including mating the tool with the lock opening component and operating the tool to rotate the lock opening component through a series of clockwise and counterclockwise rotations corresponding to the opening sequence to unlock the lock.

A combination lock can advantageously be used as lock. The locking device provides protection against burglary and spares you the trouble of keys if the lock is a combination lock.
