摘要： A wheelchair lift apparatus which may be adapted for use in an existing motor vehicle in lieu of a seat structure removably coupled to the floor pan. The lift apparatus includes a motor driven horizontal screw for laterally moving a platform across the vehicle to exit the rear passenger compartment through a side door opening. The platform has a vertical side extension and carries a foldable wheelchair, for example, whose two sides collapse inwardly. The lift apparatus further includes motor driven linkage members for pivoting the platform and folded wheelchair from outside the rear passenger compartment toward the front of the vehicle. The platform and folded wheelchair are next vertically adjusted alongside either the driver or a front seat passenger door opening, depending upon whether the side door opening is on the right or left side of the vehicle. An additional motor driven linkage member is operative for downwardly pivoting the vertical side extension to a coplanar position with the platform so as to extend its effective surface for supporting the unfolded wheelchair, ready to receive the driver or front seat passenger; and a motor driven vertical screw for lowering and raising the platform and wheelchair.

摘要： A wheelchair carrier attaches to the back of a vehicle for transporting a wheelchair. A supporting frame attaches to a trailer hitch or the like and can pivot upwardly, out of the way, when not in use. A wheelchair housing is detachably mounted on the supporting frame by a flange and rod arrangement to enable the wheelchair to be quickly mounted and removed. The wheelchair housing has a long opening at the side which is closed off by an elongate door. The door is pivoted at the bottom and swings downwardly to serve as a ramp by means of which the wheelchair can be moved into and out of the housing with minimal effort. The carrier can also be used for other vehicles for non-ambulatory people, such as small self-propelled scooters.

A horizontal platform is mounted on the fulcrum frame for tilting movement about a tilt axis provided by the fulcrum frame from a horizontal position to an inclined position wherein one edge engages the ground. The platform is also pivotal about a second axis perpendicular to the tilt axis and includes casters at its rear edge for engaging the ground and permitting articulation of the platform about the second axis.

摘要： An automobile bumper mounted wheelchair carrier includes an extendible hydraulic cylinder secured to a known trailer-type bumper hitch. The piston member is vertically movable and includes a bottom chair support plate projecting outwardly of the bumper. In the lowered position, the support plate is located to receive the two rear wheels, or safety roller provided on the wheelchair. Upper lock members are aligned with the side frames of the wheelchair and one is releasably attached to the frame. The wheelchair is mounted in the in-use state. A pressurized hydraulic supply, either hand or electrically operated, is mounted in the vehicle trunk with lines releasably connected to the cylinder for raising and lowering of the support and wheelchair.

A method is provided including the steps of attaching the first arm of the assembly to the proximal leg of the wheelchair, extending the second arm and attaching the second arm to the distal leg of the wheelchair, pivoting the first arm upwardly to raise the first and second arms and the wheelchair attached thereto, and retracting the second arm relative to the first arm to collapse the legs of the wheelchair together.

摘要： Apparatus for moving a wheelchair into and out of an automobile under the control of a disabled person using the wheelchair. The apparatus comprises a wheelchair supporting assembly secured to the interior roof of the automobile rearwardly of the driver's seat, the wheelchair supporting assembly being movable generally laterally inwardly and outwardly of the automobile when the driver's door is open and having means at its outer end for engaging and lifting the wheelchair. When the disabled person approaches an automobile in the wheelchair, he opens the driver's door, moves the wheelchair close to the automobile and positions himself on the driver's seat in the automobile. Thereafter, he actuates suitable control means on the dashboard to extend the wheelchair supporting assembly laterally outwardly of the automobile. The lifting means at the outer end of the assembly are then connected to the wheelchair and the control means on the dashboard are again actuated to move the lifting means upwardly which folds and lifts the wheelchair, and then to move the support assembly laterally inwardly to move the folded wheelchair into the rear portion of the automobile behind the driver's seat.
