    • Techniques for dynamically varying coverage in a multi-carrier communication system are described. A sector may operate on multiple carriers. The sector may vary coverage on a given carrier k based on its load, so that less interference may be caused to other sectors when the sector load is light. In one design, the sector may communicate on a first carrier at a first transmit power level and on a second carrier at a second transmit power level equal to or lower than the first transmit power level. The sector may vary the second transmit power level based on its load to vary the coverage of the second carrier. The sector may reduce the second transmit power level to zero or a low level if the sector load is light. The sector may also vary the second transmit power level based on a function of sector load or a switching pattern.

    • Methods and apparatus for obtaining web content are disclosed. The method includes transmitting, responsive to a user request for a webpage, a primary-content-item-request to obtain a primary content item of the webpage. And a request list that is stored on the client device is accessed to obtain a list of secondary-content-item-requests that are typically needed, in connection with the primary content item, to render the webpage. The secondary-content-item-requests are then transmitted in advance of receiving a response to the primary-content-item-request. And the web page is rendered using the primary content item and the secondary content items.

    • A cryptosync design comprising (1) a channel identifier indicative of a particular channel via which a data packet is sent, (2) an extended time stamp indicative of a time value associated with the data packet, and (3) a counter indicative of a packet count associated with the data packet. The lengths of the extended time stamp and counter fields and the time unit for the extended time stamp are parameters that may be configured for each channel. At the sender, the extended time stamp for the cryptosync may be obtained from the System Time maintained by the sender. The counter value for the cryptosync may be provided by a counter that is maintained for the channel by the sender. The sender may include a time stamp and/or the counter value, if they are needed to derive the cryptosync at the receiver, in a header of the data packet.

    • Embodiments disclosed herein relate to methods and systems for grouping pilot signals and using such grouping for pilot strength reporting and set management in multi-carrier communication systems. In one embodiment, an access network may assign a group identifier (or “group ID”) to each of the pilot signals associated with the sector, e.g., based on the coverage areas of the pilot signals, and transmit the pilot signals with the corresponding group IDs. PN offset may be used as the group ID. An access terminal may group the pilot signals received into one or more pilot groups in accordance with their group IDs, and select a representative pilot signals from each pilot group for pilot strength reporting. The access terminal may also use the pilot grouping to perform effective set management.
