    • An information retrieval apparatus which retrieves a program by using speech recognition is provided. A recognition dictionary storage unit stores a recognition dictionary in which a lexicon for the speech recognition is described. A program information storage unit stores program information data. A viewing history storage unit stores a viewing history containing information of the viewed frequency of a program which a user viewed in the past. When a program which satisfies a criterion concerning the viewed frequency is extracted from the program information data, a related word of the extracted program is registered in the recognition dictionary. A speech recognition unit performs speech recognition with respect to an input speech by using the recognition dictionary in which the related word is registered. A retrieval unit retrieves a program corresponding to the result of the speech recognition from the program information data.

    • A speech recognition apparatus that requires a reduced amount of computation for likelihood calculation is provided. A language lookahead score for a node of interest is generated based on the language scores for each recognition word shared by the node of interest. To this is added the node's acoustic score, which is calculated based on the likelihood of the connected hypotheses expressed by a path from the root node to the parent node of the node of interest. From this added result, the language lookahead score resulting when the parent node is the node of interest is deleted, and the language lookahead score is updated by adding the language lookahead score of the node of interest. The updating of the language lookahead score is terminated at a specific position in the tree structure.

    • There are provided a method and apparatus of component mounting capable of avoiding damage caused by production operations with a component holder having debris thereon. If it is determined during a detecting step of a component holding condition that a component is held by a component holder in an improper condition for mounting, the component holder releases such a component into a collecting box, and skips a pick up operation at a next round of a pick up station. The component holder is then subjected to confirming whether any debris exists by using, preferably, a condition sensor, and the component holder picks up a new component if it is confirmed that no debris exists. If debris is found during the confirming step, production operations are stopped, or a warning is generated. After maintenance of the component holder is completed, production operations are restarted.

    • Here is disclosed a method and apparatus for folding a continuously fed in two. The web is folded along guide means defining a folding guide line with a fold angle gradually reduced. In the course of gradually reducing the fold angle, a plurality of guide rolls through are pressed against transversely opposite side edge portions of the web. Immediately before the stage on which the web is completely folded in two, there are provided detector means adapted to detect actual positions of the respective side edge portions and swing rolls located upstream of these detector means adapted to change a crossing angle of the web with respect to a machine direction. Actuators interposed between the detector means and the swing guide rolls cause the swing guide rolls to swing and thereby to move the side edge portions toward predetermined positions.
