    • A discharge lamp lighting device includes: a power converting circuit including a step-down chopper circuit and a polarity inversion circuit configured to convert an output from the step-down chopper circuit to a rectangular-wave alternating-current voltage, and thus to apply the rectangular-wave alternating-current voltage to a discharge lamp; and a memory configured to store a history of an output from the power converting circuit in a previous stable lighting mode. A control circuit controls on and off of each of switching elements in the step-down chopper circuit and the polarity inversion circuit, and thereby changes the output from the power converting circuit in a predetermined time period after the lamp starts lighting until reaching a stable lighting state on the basis of the history stored in the memory, so that a rise of a lamp voltage is suppressed. This enables extension of the lifespan of the lamp and suppression of the occurrence of arc jump.

    • A lighting device is capable of realizing a stable dimming control in a wide range of light output. The lighting device includes a DC power circuit for providing power to a switching element of the lighting device. A current controller switches the switching element to enable a current to flow from the DC power circuit through a solid state light source and maintain the current from the DC power circuit through the solid state light source current controller at a predetermined current. The current controller includes a first switching controller operable to change a width of an on-pulse provided to the switching element and a second switching controller operable to determine a burst-on time during which the on-pulses determined by the first switching controller are provided to the switching element. The burst-on time is longer than an on-pulse period of the first switching controller.

    • A mobile radio communication system having one or more relay stations and base stations, a gateway, an external device having a route selection function, and a policy control device which selects a main route and a sub route on the basis of residual resources in a radio communication device. The mobile station connected to one radio communication device can select another radio communication device having a large amount of residual resources as a new access point when the one radio communication device cannot be used, to prevent shortage of the radio resources. Also, it is possible to enable a process of selecting the radio communication device as a new access point to be omitted when switching one route to another by determining a sub route as the new access point when a main route is disconnected in advance, to shorten a service disconnection time.

    • An electronic ballast is provided for powering a high intensity discharge lamp. A voltage step-down circuit is arranged to reduce an input DC voltage. An inverter circuit includes at least one high frequency switching element is and arranged to convert the reduced voltage to a high frequency AC voltage. A resonant circuit receives the high frequency voltage and is further coupled to the discharge lamp. A voltage step-down control circuit controls the DC voltage output from the voltage step-down circuit. A driving circuit supplies a driving signal to the switching element of the inverter, and further adjusts a driving frequency of the driving signal, thereby controlling the high-frequency voltage. The high frequency voltage in a first operating mode is controlled to a low level wherein the lamp is prevented from starting. The high frequency voltage in a second operating mode is controlled to a high level wherein the discharge lamp can be started.

    • A lamp ballast is provided requiring less size and cost for powering a discharge lamp. An inverter circuit converts a DC voltage from a DC power source into a voltage having a determined frequency, and supplies the converted voltage to the discharge lamp inserted between a pair of output ends of the inverter. A resonant circuit includes an auto-transformer and a resonant capacitor, and supplies an output voltage corresponding to a frequency of the rectangular wave voltage of the power supply circuit to the discharge lamp. A voltage detection circuit detects an output voltage of the resonant circuit based on a potential of the resonant capacitor. A control circuit has a startup control mode to set the frequency of the rectangular wave voltage based on the detected voltage from the voltage detection circuit, wherein the output voltage of the resonant circuit exceeds a starting voltage of the discharge lamp.
