    • The present invention describes an adaptive clamp width adjusting device (200) for use in an integrated circuit package process machine. The device (200) includes a travel component (210) and a fixed component (310). The travel component (210) carries a clamp (220a,220b) with an adjustable width and a rotary screw (230a) operable for such adjustment by a driven wheel (232). The fixed component (310), mounted on a base plate (312), includes a motor (320) and a drive wheel (324) attached to the motor shaft. When the device (200) is in a clamp width conversion station (40a), the travel component (210) is aligned above the fixed component (310) so that when the base plate (312) is raised and the drive wheel (324) engages the driven wheel (232), the clamp width is operable to be adjusted by the motor (320) according to a width of a workpiece (W).

    • An instant clamping mechanism includes a supporting member, a base seat, a clamping assembly and a handle assembly. The base seat is assembled to the supporting member and defines a sliding groove, the sliding groove includes a releasing end and a latching end, an axial distance within the base seat is defined from the latching end to the releasing end. The clamping assembly extends through the base seat and the supporting member and is partially exposed out from the supporting member. The handle assembly extends into the sliding groove and is partially exposed out from the base seat. The handle assembly is non-rotatably connected to the clamping assembly and is capable of sliding from the releasing end to the latching end to move the clamping assembly axially within the base seat, thereby clamping the workpiece on the supporting member.

    • A clamp has an open state for inserting an object from a front end and a closed state for holding the inserted object relative to a back end. The clamp includes a frame as well as a first arm and a second arm that is positioned within the frame. At least one of the first or second arms is pivotable relative to the other along a range of motion that traverses an open position corresponding to the open state of the clamp and a closed position corresponding to the closed state of the clamp. In one embodiment, at least one of the first and second arms are shaped to position the object between a front end and a back end when the clamp is in the closed state such that a pressure exerted by insertion of the object to the backend causes the front end to move along the range of motion to the closed position. A locking mechanism locks the clamp to the closed state when the front end reaches the closed position and unlocks the clamp to the open state by allowing the front end to move along the range of motion to reach the open position.

    • A quick-release vise utilizing one or more clamp shafts that can be easily re-configured to clamp with CW or CCW rotation of a clamp handle. The clamp shaft is received in a housing secured to the underside of a workbench, and is free to slide in and out. The clamp shaft passes through aligned holes in a pair of opposing jaws, at least one of which is moveable. A pinion freely slides on the clamp shaft within the housing and converts rotational movement from the clamp shaft into linear movement via a meshing rack gear. The linear motion actuates a bridge which slides against a laterally fixed wedge causing the bridge to displace a locking element which clutches and moves the clamp shaft to affect clamping between the jaws. The wedge and bridge pair can be inverted to allow clamping to occur with a either CW or CCW rotation of the clamp handle and/or re-oriented to cause a spreading motion between the jaws rather than a clamping motion. The linear motion from the clamp shaft may be transferred to a second, parallel clamp shaft through a transfer bar in certain twin-shaft embodiments. In certain twin-shaft applications, one of the housings may be rotated 180° relative to the other to provide outward clamping force on one clamp shaft and inward clamping force on the other clamp shaft.
