摘要： A multilevel coherent optical system, including a heterodyne transmitter and receiver, in which a multilevel signal with a coherent optical carrier is provided by modulating the phase and the polarization of the electromagnetic field propagating through a single-mode optical fiber. The transmitter comprises a coherent light source providing the optical carrier, a phase modulator modulating the phase of the carrier, a polarization modulator, and a modulation signal generator providing control signals to the phase modulator and the polarization modulator. The receiver comprises a first stage carrying out the heterodyne detection of the phase component and the phase quadrature component of the polarization of the signal received through an optical fiber, a second stage demodulating the received signal to provide the multilevel signal, and a processing circuit comparing the received multilevel signal with predetermined reference signals. Such a system exploits the four degrees of freedom of the electromagnetic field propagating through the optical fiber so as to more closely approach the theoretical Shannon limit compared with conventional systems.

The control signal generator generates polarization information indicating whether antennas used for transmission by MISO have only a first polarization or have a second polarization as well as the first polarization. With this structure, the present invention allows for the use of combinations of SISO, MISO and MIMO, taking the polarization of antennas. Furthermore, the present invention enables the receiver to reduce the power consumption.

摘要： A continuous-variable quantum key distribution (CV-QKD) method and system is provided. The CV-QKD method includes: step 1: transmitting a quantum signal and a local oscillation signal synchronously based on time and polarization multiplexing, and performing detection to obtain detection data; and step 2: compensating for the detection data based on a phase compensation algorithm and public data. In this way, a phase can be compensated accurately in channel fading, so as to improve performance of the CV-QKD system.

摘要： The quantum communication system conveys information by exploiting quantum properties of photon streams. A photon source producing a pair of spatially separated and polarization-entangled photon streams is used. The pair collectively exist in a quantum superposition state by virtue of their mutual entanglement. An encoder establishes a modulation control signal corresponding to the information to be conveyed. An optical quantum circuit is placed in the path of one of the pair of streams, so that the first stream passes through it. The optical quantum circuit alters the quantum polarization state of the photon passing through it based on the control signal. In this way information is encoded into quantum probability distributions of the superposition state through quantum parallelism and quantum interference, whereby information is conveyed in the photon streams.

摘要： A polarization modulation method of photonic pulses, in particular for generating quantum cryptographic keys, ensures an optimum stability of the outgoing polarization states, and comprises the steps of: generating a plurality of photonic pulses with an unspecified polarization state obtained by the overlapping of both the horizontal and vertical polarization modes thereof, and routing them in a first polarization-maintaining fiber; splitting said horizontal and vertical polarization modes and routing them in respective terminals of a second polarization-maintaining fiber forming a ring, whereby they travel such ring clockwise and counter-clockwise respectively, or vice versa; inducing a respective phase modulation (oe, ol) of both said polarization modes, in one point of said ring which is spaced from said terminals by optical paths having different length along said ring, thereby a polarization-maintaining fiber delay line is determined; and recombining said polarization modes in one single photonic pulse beam, and routing the resulting beam through said first polarization-maintaining fiber, by obtaining, at the output thereof, a polarization state of the pulses depending upon the difference between said phase modulations (oe, ol).

The polarization scrambler may include a beam reducer to receive and reduce the scrambled expanded optical signal to create a scrambled optical signal. The polarization scrambler may include an optical fiber output to receive scrambled optical signal. The optical fiber output may transmit the scrambled optical signal to one or more downstream optical components.
