    • A window balance assembly for a tilt-in window comprising a bracket, a spring and a carrier. The first spring has a first portion engaging the bracket. The carrier has a vertical portion including a first slot, a first projection extending outwardly from a first side of the vertical portion, and a second attachment projection extending outwardly from a second side of the vertical portion. The first slot receives a pivot bar of the tilt-in window via a vertical drop-in installation. One of the first and second attachment protrusions engages the first portion of the spring. The horizontal portion includes an aperture rotatably engaging a cam between a first position and a second position. The cam has a second slot aligned with the first slot when the cam is in the first position allowing for the pivot bar to move between the first slot and the second slot.

    • A latch mechanism adapted for being coupled to a window sash, which travels within a window frame, is disclosed which includes a main housing having a sidewall including one or more sidewall sections. The sidewall including one or more sidewall sections extends around at least a portion of the housing and defines an interior space and includes an opening in said sidewall at one end of said housing. The sidewall further defines a channel within the interior space of the main housing, which has an end that coincides with said opening. At least one of the sidewall sections which is substantially parallel to the direction of travel of the bolt is adapted to extend down from the top of the top rail of the window sash along at least a portion of the external surface of a corresponding one of the front facing and the back facing of the top rail. The latch mechanism further includes a bolt, which is substantially located within said housing and travels along said channel. The bolt has a first end which is adapted for extending through the opening of said housing and extending into the side jamb of the window frame. The latch mechanism still further includes a tension device coupled to the bolt and the main housing for biasing the bolt toward a position where the bolt extends at least partially through the opening.

When the cover is placed at the closed position, the slide base is placed at the initial position.

    • A single or double hung window assembly has a rectangular main frame supporting at least one rectangular sash frame for vertical sliding movement, and each frame has members formed from extrusions including rigid plastics material. A horizontal upper sash rail or member is reinforced by an elongated and continuous metal stiffening channel having a width substantially greater than its height and defining a longitudinally extending and upwardly facing undercut cavity. End portions of the stiffening channel support retractable sliding tilt latch bolts each having a snap-fit connection to a corresponding actuator slidably mounted on the upper sash rail. A sash lock member is also mounted on the upper sash rail and is secured to the stiffening channel. A pre-assembly of the stiffening channel and latch bolts is inserted through an opening in a vertical sash frame member, and stiffening channels are also inserted into other sash frame members.
