    • A disk player has a magazine for storing disks and a disk transport mechanism transporting a selected disk between a playback position outside the magazine and a store position located entirely within the magazine. The carriages are stacked upon each other and pivotally supported within the magazine. The carriages are extracted from the stack by lifting a front end of a carriage above a selected carriage. A transport mechanism moves carriages between the magazine, the playback position and an eject position. A disk sensor senses the presence of a disk in the transport mechanism before the carriage is reinstalled in the magazine and a memory updated to indicate that the selected carriage is occupied by a disk. If an extra disk is inadvertently placed on the selected carriage, after the transport mechanism reinstalls the selected carriage, the sensor indicates that a disk remains on the transport mechanism. The transport mechanism then brings the extra disk to the eject position before moving the magazine to prevent the extra disk from being damaged by the movement of the magazine.

    • A compact disk changer includes a magazine having an inner body and an outer body that are rotatable independently of one another about a common axis of rotation. The inner and outer bodies are slideably interconnected by a helical member so that relative rotation between the bodies in a first direction increases the axial spacing between them and relative rotation in a second direction decreases the axial spacing. This construction reduces the size of the changer and does not require precision tolerances between moving parts. A plurality of compact discs are stacked within the magazine, and each disk is supported by a disk holder. When the disk at the top or end of the stack is to be played, relative rotation between the inner and outer bodies creates an axially extending space, adjacent the selected disk and a playing mechanism is inserted into that space. When a disk at any other position within the stack is to be played, the disk holder is engaged and the inner and outer bodies are rotated with respect to one another so that the disk holder immediately below the engaged disk holder is axially displaced with respect to the disk to be played. This creates a space into which the playing mechanism is inserted.

    • A floppy disk drive including a pivotally mounted disk pack storing a plurality of floppy diskettes, a driver mechanism for rotating any one of the diskettes into a retrievable position, a picker mechanism for moving the one diskette between the retrievable position and an operative position at which the diskette is rotatable on a spindle, and a position control circuit for controlling the position of a recording head across the one diskette being in the operative position and for compensating for expansion, contraction, and eccentric rotation of the one diskette. The floppy diskettes are stored bent in the disk pack, but in the operative position the one diskette that had been retrieved from the retrievable position is stored only partially in the disk pack and parallel to the plane of rotation. A microprocessor controls the entire disk drive.
