摘要： An electroluminescent display device includes an anode, a cathode and a light emitting layer disposed between the anode and the cathode. The display device also includes a substrate allowing light from the light emitting layer to pass through itself and an ultraviolet protection film disposed in an optical path of the light passing through the substrate. Retardation films and polarizers used in conventional electroluminescent display devices are replaced by the ultraviolet protection film with respect to reducing the effect of ultraviolet rays on the degradation of the display characteristics.

摘要： An EL element and an interface between a channel and an impurity diffusion area of a thin film transistor provided in the vicinity of the EL element are spaced apart. A light shielding film is provided between the EL element and the interface. By providing such a space and/or the light shielding film, generation of a leak current, which would otherwise be caused by light emitted from the self-emissive EL element entering the TFT, is reliably prevented, thereby ensuring that emitted light is not brighter than a predetermined luminance.

摘要： A device has a first transistor and a second transistor wherein a channel length direction of the first transistor extends along a first direction and a channel length direction of the second transistor extends along a second direction intersecting the first direction, and the second transistor is formed on a same substrate as the first transistor. A first channel region and a second channel region are formed in semiconductor layers which are simultaneously formed and a mobility of the semiconductor film has an anisotropy in the first and second directions. With this structure, transistors having different mobilities can be obtained while using the semiconductor films formed on the same substrate and from a same material. For example, it is possible to form a transistor in which a high resistance is required using a semiconductor layer of the same characteristics as that in a transistor in which a high speed operation is desired, on the same substrate and with a minimum area.

By interposing the buffer layer between the first and second upper conductive layers, damages to a light emitting element layer formed below the upper electrode and containing an organic material or the like having a low resisting characteristic against sputtering environment can be prevented while a high level of a charge injection efficiency to the light emitting element layer is maintained for charges such as electrons and holes, and, at the same time, a conductive layer can be formed with superior coverage and uniformity, to a sufficient thickness, and with superior productivity. The buffer layer may have a multi-layer structure.

摘要： A glass substrate and a shadow mask are put tightly together by inserting the glass substrate between a magnet and the shadow mask made of magnetic material. A pattern forming of an organic EL device is performed by depositing an organic EL material on the surface of the glass substrate from an evaporation source through an opening portion in the shadow mask. A coarsening processing has been performed on the surface of shadow mask facing the glass substrate. This suppresses the damage on the substrate surface by the shadow mask during the evaporation processing.

A plurality of pixels is disposed in a matrix on a device substrate to form a pixel region. Each of the pixels in the pixel region is provided with an organic EL element and a driving transistor for driving the organic EL element. Furthermore, organic interlayer insulating films are formed on the driving transistor and under the organic EL element. The device substrate and a sealing substrate are attached with a sealing member disposed on a peripheral region of the pixel region. The organic interlayer insulating films are separated by a separating region provided between the sealing member and the pixel region.

Because SiO2 films having a refractive index which differs significantly from refractive indexes of other films are used for these films, there was a problem of light attenuation in these layers. Such light attenuation can be reduced by removing these layers located in the region through which light from the organic EL element passes.

摘要： An active matrix type liquid crystal display comprises pixel electrodes corresponding to respective pixels and storage capacitor electrodes which are disposed lying adjacent to each pixel electrode, with an insulation layer interposed therebetween. Input terminal electrodes are positioned at ends of a TFT substrate. An input capacitor is constituted by one storage capacitor electrode and one input terminal electrode which are positioned at opposite sides of the insulating layer interposed therebetween. Input capacitors are connected in series with the storage capacitor. A voltage of the storage capacitor electrode is controllable in response to a signal to the input terminal electrode as desired. The storage capacitor electrode and input terminal electrode can be shorted by irradiating a laser. In either case, it is not necessary to make a contact hole on an insulation layer using a dedicated mask so as to connect the input terminal electrode and storage capacitor electrode to the insulation layer. Thus, it is possible to reduce the number of masks to be used during the manufacturing process.
