    • A receiver and method are provided. The receiver includes a detector configured to receive polarization multiplexed coded orthogonal frequency division multiplexing input sequences and generate estimates of unknown transmitted symbols in the input sequences for x- and y-polarization channels with respect to laser phase noise and PMD. A demapper coupled to the detector is configured to partially cancel polarization mode dispersion (PMD) in the input sequences by computing symbol probabilities for the estimates with respect to the laser phase noise, and averaging the symbol probabilities with respect to the laser phase noise. One or more low-density parity-check (LDPC) decoders coupled to the demapper are configured to receive bit probabilities derived from the averaged symbol probabilities and output code words based at least on the bit probabilities. The one or more LDPC decoders iteratively provide extrinsic soft information feedback to the demapper to compensate for the PMD.

    • The present invention relates to a sliding pulley drive mechanism in cutting platform of lawn mower. An engine for the pulley drive mechanism is fixed to a chassis; a cutting platform is connected to the chassis, and can move up and down in relation to the chassis; a bracket is fixed to the cutting platform; cutting platform drive belts are fitted over the output shaft of the engine, an external spline shaft is fixed to the output shaft of the engine, and a belt pulley with an internal spline is mounted on an external spline shaft; the cutting platform drive belt is mounted on the belt pulley with an internal spline; the lower end of the belt pulley with an internal spline is connected with a shock absorbing bushing, a bearing, and a bearing base plate. The bearing base plate is connected to the bracket. In this invention, with a spline mechanism, the belt pulley on the engine can slide up or down on the output shaft of the engine as the elevation of the cutting platform is adjusted, so that the cutting platform drive belts are kept in the same plane, and therefore the belt service lifespan is elongated.

    • Data is transmitted between a central office and customer premises by a wavelength division multiplex passive optical network. Two laser beams with separate wavelengths are transmitted from the central office to an optical network unit in the customer premises. Both laser beams carry downstream data. One laser beam is intensity modulated by on/off keying. The other laser beam is phase modulated by differential phase shift keying, which maintains a constant optical intensity. The first laser beam is received by a first optical receiver, which demodulates the first downstream data. The second laser beam is split in two. One laser beam is sent to a second optical receiver, which demodulates the second downstream data. The other laser beam is sent to a reflective semiconductor amplifier, which modulates the beam with upstream data and transmits the beam back to a receiver in the central optical system.

    • An apparatus includes a generator for obtaining at least two lightwave carriers from a single lightwave source, at least two modulators for selectively varying the lightwave carriers according to respective data signals; and a coupler for combining the modulated lightwave carriers for optical transmission. The generator can be one of an optical carrier suppression or phase modulation. The apparatus can employ a filter for separating the lightwave carriers by a fixed wavelength spacing before selectively varying the lightwave carriers according to the respective data signals. In an exemplary embodiment of the invention, the respective data signals are two 50 Gbit/s differential quadrature phase key DQPSK signals, each 50 Gbit/s DQPSK signal including a first 25 Gbit/s data signal out of phase with a second 25 Gbit/s data signal for selectively varying a respective one of the two lightwave carriers, and the combined modulated lightwave carriers are a 100 Gbit/s DQPSK signal. Preferably, the apparatus includes a modulator for pulse shaping the lightwave carriers.
