    • A video encoding apparatus used in encoding of a multi-viewpoint image. The apparatus generates a synthetic image for a camera used for obtaining an encoding target image, by using an already-encoded reference camera image having a viewpoint different from the viewpoint of the camera used for obtaining the encoding target image, and disparity information between the reference camera image and the encoding target image, thereby encoding the encoding target image. A predicted image for a differential image between an input image of an encoding target area to be encoded and the synthetic image generated therefor is generated, and a predicted image for the encoding target area, which is represented by the sum of the predicted differential image and the synthetic image for the encoding target area, is generated. A prediction residual represented by a difference between the predicted image for the encoding target area and the encoding target image of the encoding target area is encoded.

    • A liquid crystal element for correcting wave aberration included in an optical disc apparatus, is controlled by a liquid crystal element control unit which has a memory portion that stores information about a variation with time of orientation direction of liquid crystal in the case where a voltage is applied to the liquid crystal, with respect to at least one type of voltage value. The liquid crystal element control unit has a drive voltage deciding portion that obtains time period after a predetermined drive voltage is applied to the liquid crystal element until a reproduced signal obtained by processing an electric signal converted by the light detecting unit becomes optimal, and decides a drive voltage to be applied to the liquid crystal element based on the obtained time period, the information stored in the memory portion, and the predetermined drive voltage.

    • A method for measuring the maturity degree of a compost capable of determining the maturity degree of a compost purportedly of a product in a short period of time (10 to 30 minutes) by compost manufacturers, users and even those with insufficient expertise and experiences such as buyers in the distribution industry on site and also capable of determining it according to the maturity stage in an easy and cost-effective manner, and a measuring solution. A specific measuring solution is added to the compost to flocculate a compost extract containing humic-like substance and decomposed organic matter, and a liquid phase is acquired by precipitating the compost extract by the solid/liquid separation. Based on the correlation in which the absorbency of the liquid phase declines as the compost becomes more mature, the maturity degree of the compost is measured from the color contrasting density of the liquid phase.

    • A switching regulator includes a first switch, an inductor, a second switch, a control circuit to control a switching operation by switching the first switch and switching the second switch complementally to the first switch, a reverse current protection circuit to shut off a current through the second switch to prevent a reverse current from an output terminal toward the second switch, and a soft-start circuit to cause the control circuit to perform a soft-start operation in which the output voltage is being increased gradually during a time period from a start-up to a predetermined elapsed time. The soft-start circuit causes the reverse current protection circuit to stop a shutoff operation of the current through the second switch when a generation or an indication of the reverse current is detected during the soft-start operation instructed by the control circuit.

The input terminal receives an input voltage. The inductor generates an output voltage. The output terminal provides the output voltage. The first and second transistors perform switching in the step-down mode. The third and fourth transistors perform switching in the step-up mode. The overcurrent detection unit detects an overcurrent condition. The control unit controls operation of the transistors, causes the first and third transistors to be off and the second and fourth transistors to be on when the overcurrent condition is detected in a first state, and causes the first and fourth transistors to be on and the second and third transistors to be off when the overcurrent condition is detected in a second state.
