    • An optical beam scanning device of the present invention is for having a light beam with the width in the main scanning direction wider than the width in the main scanning direction of the reflection surface of a deflector incident on the deflector, reflecting and polarizing a part thereof by the reflection surface of the deflector, and focusing the polarized light beam on a surface to be scanned by optical means including a transmission type optical member. Then, the polarization direction of the light beam incident on the deflector is substantially in the main scanning direction. According to an image forming apparatus comprising a plurality of light sources for forming a plurality of scanning lines with the light beams from a plurality of the light sources, the polarization direction of the light beams from the light sources at the time of being incident on the corresponding deflector is provided substantially in the main scanning direction.

    • This invention has as its object to provide an image forming apparatus which can provide a color image free from any color misregistration with low cost, and a light scanning unit suitable for the apparatus. The apparatus includes a finite lens and a cylinder lens for giving predetermined characteristics to light beams emitted by a plurality of light sources, a laser synthesis mirror unit for synthesizing laser beams passing through the lenses, a deflection unit for deflecting the synthesized light beams, first and second image-forming lenses for adjusting the aberration characteristics, at the imaging position, of the deflected light beam, one or three mirrors for outputting the light beam passing through the image-forming lenses at predetermined positions, and can provide a color image free from any color misregistration.

    • A multi-beam laser exposure unit of the present invention includes a light beam deflector for deflecting a light beam in a predetermined direction, a plurality of laser devices, a pre-optical system, including a glass lens and a plastic lens, for converting a cross sectional shape of a light beam emitted from the respective laser devices to a predetermined shape, and a post-deflection optical system, including two lenses for image-forming each light beam deflected by the deflector to be scanned on a predetermined image surface at a uniform speed. The power of the two lenses of the post-deflection optical system is defined to be positive in a direction parallel to a rotational axis of reflective surfaces of the deflector. Also, at least one lens surface of these lenses is formed not to include a rotational symmetrical surface.
