    • There is provided an apparatus for fabricating an apodized fiber grating. In the apodized fiber grating fabricating apparatus, a UV (Ultraviolet) laser emits a UV laser beam, a beam splitter splits the UV laser beam emitted from the UV laser into two beams, a plurality of mirrors form light paths to concurrently project the split beams onto an optical fiber from two directions by reflecting the split beams, a phase mask passes the reflected beams therethrough in such a way to form gratings in the optical fiber in a predetermined period, a first blocking device is disposed between the phase mask and one of the mirrors, progressively blocks one of the two beams from being projected toward the optical fiber from one direction, and provides apodization to the formed gratings, and a second blocking device, which is mobile and opposite to the first blocking device with respect to the optical fiber, progressively blocks the other beam from being projected toward the optical fiber from another direction and provides apodization to the formed gratings, so that an average refractive index variation is constant across the whole gratings.

    • An add-drop wavelength filter is described which separates specific wavelength components from optical signals propagating through an optical waveguide or adds specific wavelength components thereto.     • A fuse area of a semiconductor device capable of preventing moisture-absorption and a method for manufacturing the fuse area are provided. When forming a guard ring for preventing permeation of moisture through the sidewall of an exposed fuse opening portion, an etch stop layer is formed over a fuse line. A guard ring opening portion is formed using the etch stop layer. The guard ring opening portion is filled with a material for forming the uppermost wiring of multi-level interconnect wirings or the material of a passivation layer, thereby forming the guard ring concurrently with the uppermost interconnect wiring or the passivation layer. Accordingly, permeation of moisture through an interlayer insulating layer or the interface between interlayer insulating layers around the fuse opening portion can be efficiently prevented by a simple process. In addition, the etch stop layer is also formed under the fuse opening portion so that an insulating layer remaining on the fuse line can be controlled to have a predetermined thickness when forming the fuse opening portion, thereby improving the cutting efficiency of fuses.

The acoustic sensor of the present invention is a Sagnac interferometric sensor array employing a depolarizer. Unlike a single Sagnac interferometric sensor, two light signals traveling in the opposite directions from each other pass through the off-center position of the loop at different times in the Sagnac loop when they are pulses, and thus, it is possible for the light pulses to be maintained at a constant phase difference by giving arbitrarily a certain amount of phase to them. By using the fact, the interferometer is constructed in such a way that the interference light output coincides with the applied acoustic signals in waveform. This invention suggests a way of fabricating an array of fiber-optic acoustic sensors that is easy to be made and is highly sensitive at some frequency band.
