    • A joint (24) and method of making the same for interconnecting various segments of coolant tubes of heat exchangers. The instant joint (24) includes a first tube (26) having a necked end (38) with a reduced outer diameter (40) and a second tube (30) having a frustro-conical portion (34) with a steadily increasing inner diameter. The necked end (38) of the first tube (26) is inserted within the frustro-conical portion (34) of the second tube (30) thus forming a frustro-conical portion shaped increasing gap space therebetween. The increasing gap space is filled with epoxy adhesive to form a bond (44) of steadily increasing thickness between the outer diameter (28) of the first tube (26) and the steadily increasing inner diameter of the frustro-conical portion (34) of the second tube (30).

    • A method for connecting a coolant tube (20) and header (22, 24) of a heat exchanger (10) comprises manifolds (12, 14) forming fluid reservoirs (16, 18) and a plurality of coolant tubes (20) in fluid communication with the manifolds (12, 14). The manifolds (12, 14) comprise a header wall (22, 24) having a plurality of collars (26) forming collar openings (28). The tubes (20) include an axially extending mechanical seam (50) and deformable hollow end portions (52) extending through the collar openings (28). A flaring tool (70) having tapered side surfaces (74) is inserted in the end portion (52) of the tube (20) to expand the tube (20) outwardly against the collar opening (28). The flaring tool (70) includes a groove extending axially along the side surface (74) aligning with and straddling the seam (50) during expansion of the tube (20) and further forces the portions (62, 64 ) of the tube (20) adjacent the seam (50) outwardly into sealing engagement with the collar opening (28).

    • In a plate heat exchanger having a frame plate and a pressure plate, at least one of these plates has holes for flow of the heat exchanging media to and from respective passages in the pack of heat exchange plates. Each of these holes has a lining of corrosion-resistant metal comprising a hollow cylinder with thin flanges at its opposite ends engaging opposite sides of the frame plate or pressure plate. One of these flanges has a seamless connection with the hollow cylinder and is sealingly compressed between a heat exchange plate and an undepressed surface of the inner side of the adjacent frame plate or pressure plate. Lining of the hole is effected by plastically deforming a metal disc into a hollow cylinder with a flange at one end, inserting the other end of the cylinder through the hole to engage the flange with said undepressed surface, and then providing said other end of the cylinder with a flange engaging an undepressed surface of the outer side of the frame or pressure plate.

    • A heat exchanger wherein a plurality of individual tubular parts are connected with each other is provided having a common pressure element for tube connections arranged in a plane. According to FIG. 1, a pressure platen 6 is present, which consists of a material harder than that of the external tubular part and is equipped with a number of orifices 7 corresponding to the number of tube connections. The pressure platen 6 surrounds the outer and inner tubular parts inserted in each other, and the diameter of the orifices 7 is smaller, at least in part, than the external diameter of the outer tubular part. According to the process for the manufacture of the heat exchanger, all of the tube connections are produced simultaneously by means of pressing on the pressure platen. Each of the tube connections is effected by reducing the cross section by means of plastic deformation of at least the outer, tubular part, whereby a press fit of the tubular part is obtained.
