    • A heat dissipating connector assembly is provided for use in retrofit applications to replace the electrical connector within the housing of an existing light fixture. In one embodiment thereof, the connector assembly includes a hollow, externally finned cooling body having a graphite foil-lined socket opening formed through a forward end portion thereof. The socket opening communicates with an enlarged cavity within a rear portion of the body which captively retains a connector formed from two stacked metal block pairs encapsulated within and separated by silicon insulating material. Pin openings are formed through the block pairs along the junctures between their individual blocks. Entry of the pins into the block openings slightly separates the blocks in each pair thereof, against the resilient force of the insulation material, to create an automatic "pin-wiping" action. In an alternate embodiment of the connector assembly, the finned cooling body is formed from two extruded metal sections which are encapsulated within and separated by silicon insulating material. Portions of these two sections integrally define the connector portion of the improved assembly.

    • A thermally protected recessed lighting fixture includes a generally cylindrical housing divided by a partition into a closed upper chamber and an open-bottom lower chamber. A reflector assembly including a reflector and lamp socket is removably mountable in the lower chamber. The reflector assembly carries a thermally insulating and flame-resistant shroud which encloses its rear side and is generally conical in shape. In use, the shroud is spaced from the walls of the lower chamber to form a heat sink space therein. Conductors from the lamp socket extend through a slit in the shroud to a plug which is matable with a receptacle in the partition, the receptacle being connected to associated circuitry in the upper chamber.

    • This invention is directed to a high temperature resistant lighting device for lighting the interior of a high temperature furnace for observing the furnace interior from the outside. A lighting lamp (5) and an inspection device (9) are housed within a metallic heat protective casing (10) having a cooling path (27) for circulation of cooling water. The lamp and an objective section (91) of the inspection device are rotatable with its associated drives (53) and (97) so that the illuminating direction of light from the lamp and the viewing direction of the objective section are variable so as to direct illuminating light beams from the lamp toward a wall surface of the furnace via a viewing window (4) and focus reflected light beams from the wall surface of the furnace onto the objective section. The light beams focused on the objective section are led out of the furnace through an optical fiber bundle or cable (92) and picked up to form a video image of the wall surface of the furnace by means of a TV camera (17). Accurate and scrupulous observation of the inner wall surface of the furnace is made possible by varying the directions of the lamp and the objective section.
