    • A tie plate is provided for securing a rail to a railway tie. The tie plate has a base with a tie face opposite a rail face, opposite end faces extending between the tie and the rail faces, a gauge side opposite a field side with said gauge and field sides extending between the opposite end faces and the rail and tie faces. A rail support section runs across the rail face between the opposite end faces and along the gauge and field sides. The tie plate further has a respective clip hold down housing adjacent the rail support section on the field side and the gauge side, each clip hold down housing having a rail abutting face proximal the rail support section and a longitudinally extending receptacle for receiving a spring clip. A respective rail locating shoulder extends from the rail face on either side of the rail support section. Locating ridges extend from the tie face for embedding into a tie. Screw holes extend through the tie plate between the rail and tie faces on the field side and on the gauge side for receiving lag screws to secure the tie plate to the tie. At least one spike hole extends through the tie plate between the tie face and the rail face on each of the field side and the tie side.

    • A method of fixing a rail on a rail-support by metal spikes each comprising a round shaft having a top and terminated by a head for bearing against a rail flange with at least the bottom portion of the spike shaft being received in the rail-support in such a manner that the spike head is directed away from the rail-supporting surface of the rail-support. The bottom portion of the shaft includes at least one zone made of a plastically deformed material, and an antirotation structure is provided co-operating with complementary parts of the rail support for preventing any rotation of the bottom portion of the spike relative to the rail support when a couple below a predetermined value is applied to the top portion of the spike. The bottom portion of the shaft is placed in the rail support, the rail is placed on the rail support in the position in which it is to be fixed, and then a sufficient twisting couple is applied to the plastically deformable zone of the spike by twisting the top portion of the spike to bring the head over and bearing against the rail flange by plastic deformation in the plastically deformable zone.

    • An anchoring device for use in anchoring a railway rail-fastening clip to a foundation for a railway rail has a head part, which anchors the clip and is to lie above the foundation, and a tail part which is to lie in the foundation and is in the form of a single vertical rod. At least one vane, to resist turning of the device about its vertical axis, has its upper extremity joined to the bottom of the head part and has one of its sides joined to the upper portion of the tail part, the vane having a vertical length and a horizontal width greater than its horizontal thickness. At least one projection, below the vane or vanes, projects laterally from the tail part and has a horizontal or nearly horizontal top, the projection or projections serving to resist vertical forces tending to pull the anchoring device vertically upwardly out of the foundation.A concrete rail tie may have the tail parts of four of such anchoring devices embedded in it and a railway rail-and-fastening assembly may comprise a concrete foundation, a rail lying on it between the head parts of two such anchoring devices and two clips anchored by the anchoring devices and pressing downwardly on opposite sides of a flange at the bottom of the rail.

    • The device comprises a spring fixed to a support at a point remote from the rail and curved in the direction of the rail, and a swing block interposed between the spring and the flange of the rail. The swing block bears against the flange of the rail at one end and against the support at its opposite end. The swing block is clamped by the end of the spring which applies a clamping force at point located at a distance from the flange of the rail but in the vicinity of the flange so that the two lever arms of the swing block have very different lengths. Further, the spring has a thickness which decreases in the direction of the rail and bears against the swing block by its end which is curved, the swing block having a corresponding shape under said end.

    • A railroad fastener assembly is provided for securing a rail in place. The rail fastener assembly includes a base plate, at least two rail locator members, formed integrally with the base plate and located on opposite sides of the rail for locating the rail in position relative to the base plate, at least two clip holders formed integrally with the base plate; and a resilient clip associated with each clip holder for engaging the base flange of the rail to secure the rail in place. The resilient clips each comprise an elongate substantially planar member including a rail engaging, proximal end. The clip holders each include an aperture through which the associated clip extends and which defines a fulcrum for the clip. A pair of integral upwardly facing support surfaces of each clip holder is of height relative to the aperture so as to provide for capture of the distal end of the associated clip between the support surface and the aperture and thus provide deflection of the clip about the fulcrum so that the proximal end of the clip is biased into engagement with the rail. Shoulders formed on the support surfaces serve in approximately positioning the associated rail clip.

    • A rail fastener includes a rail plate, a layer of elastomeric material between the plate and a support structure, and a pair of posts for laterally and longitudinally restraining the rail plate, with elastomeric material mounted between the posts and cooperating surfaces of the rail plate. The rail plate, the layer of elastomeric material, and the support structure on which it is mounted form a shear pad. The posts are partially embedded in the support structure and extend through respective openings in the rail plate, the inner peripheries of which are covered with elastomeric material, to provide lateral and longitudinal restraint to the rail plate. Each of these posts is preferably formed of two parts, one of which is embedded in the support structure, and the other of which is an eccentric which is releasably attached thereto. Rotation of the eccentrics provides lateral and longitudinal adjustment of the rail plate with respect to the support structures, thereby providing lateral adjustment of the rail with respect to the support structure. The elastomeric material is preferably polyurethane having a relatively high resistance to abrasion and a known, predictable and well defined coefficient of friction. The posts are of a size which eliminates the possibility of any movement thereof under any expected lateral shear loads which may be imposed on the rail plate.

The spring may be round or rectangular bar stock, and if rectangular, may be set on edge; the ends of the projecting wings have a reverse bend which bears against the inside of the edge of the shoulder, the loop portion bearing against the top surface of the shoulder of the tie plate.
