    • Selected nonmagnetic semiconductor devices in an array of such devices are identified for subsequent processing by coating them with a material containing magnetizable particles. The devices are then tested to select those having the desired electrical characteristics. The selected devices in the array are contacted by the tip of a tubular marking stylus. A magnetic flux is concentrated at the tip and ink flows through stylus so that contact between the tip and article simultaneously magnetically and visibly marks the devices. Magnetic identification permits automatic sorting and removal of the selected devices from the array and the visible marking permits original set up of the array and subsequent verification of the sorting operation.

    • A sorting mechanism for magnetic core handlers utilizing a sort gate or block that is provided with tubular openings, and is directly attached to the output shaft of a conventional stepper motor that has a shaft which can be rotated between a neutral position and at least one position from neutral. The gate is shifted directly by the movement of the motor shaft in response to a test signal for a core being tested, and suitable vacuum means can be supplied to the sorting chambers to exert a vacuum force to pull tested cores through the properly aligned opening in the sort block.

    • Apparatus for testing circuit packages including a test sequence generator which is connected to a contactor for making contact to the leads of a circuit package. The contactor includes an inclined track for slidably receiving integrated circuit packages, and circuit package storage tubes connected to the ends of the inclined track. The contactor has a test region at which a circuit package is held by a rocker member. Contact means having a plurality of fingers is operated to make contact with the leads of an integrated circuit package in the test region. A test sequence may then be conducted. After the test sequence the rocker member is operated to release the integrated circuit package which has just been tested from the test region. Another circuit package then moves into the test region and the testing sequence is initiated again.

    • A paper-handling machine with slitters and a rotary knife cutter for cutting traveling webs of papers has opposing conveyor belts to move sheets of paper downstream from the cutter to a collection area. A reject section is located upstream of the piling section and conveyors are positioned to move the cut sheets to either the piling section or the reject section responsive to a signal received from a sensing device or other switch. Either the reject section and/or the piling section includes a conveyor capable of attracting and holding a cut sheet of paper properly charged with static electricity. Each cut sheet of paper has an electrical charge imparted to it by an electrical charge element positioned adjacent a conveyor belt downstream from the rotary knife. A charge element is signalled to impart a charge to selected paper sheets as the latter pass the device. A charge can be imparted to one side of a cut sheet so that the sheet is shunted to reject section. If a sheet overlap with conveyor belt receptive to an electrical charge is included in the piling section, a second charge element can also be placed adjacent the conveyor belt on the side opposite from the first charge element to charge the opposite side of selected moving paper sheets. The leading edges of the cut sheets being moved to overlap are attracted upwardly to the overhead conveyor and thereafter slowed down and moved over the trailing edges of preceding sheets so that succeeding sheets overlap one another. A static eliminator device is positioned to neutralize the charges imparted to the sheets as they are collected.
