    • A method to discriminate a real echo peak from an aliased echo peak comprises: computing ‘a correlation between N samples of a digital data and a copy of the same N samples delayed by a time delay Δ1,0 to obtain a first correlation result, time delay Δ1,0 being equal to a time interval T between a first and a second distinct power peaks of an estimated channel impulse response, the first peak being the highest power peak within the temporal window, and/or computing—a correlation between the N samples and a copy of the same N samples delayed by a time delay TIFFT-Δ1,0 to obtain a second correlation result, and deciding whether the second peak is a real echo peak or an aliased echo peak based on the first and/or second correlation results.

    • A Signal-to-Interference Ratio of a radio channel is estimated in a receiver of a wireless communications system, wherein pilots with reference information are modulated on some sub-carriers in some symbols. At least one parameter for signals received from said first transmitter is detected, and a number (Nf, Nt) of pilots in first groups that can be coherently combined in a second group is determined, and from these a channel estimate (H) for each first group and a first covariance estimate (R) for each second group are determined. A number (M) of first covariance estimates that can be averaged is defined in dependence of the presence of signals from possible interfering transmitters, and a second covariance estimate is determined as an average of said number of first covariance estimates. From the channel estimates and the second covariance estimate a Signal-to-Interference Ratio for each second group is estimated.

    • Channel estimation for high mobility OFDM channels is achieved by identifying a set of channel path delays from an OFDM symbol stream including carrier data, inter-channel interference noise and channel noise; determining the average channel impulse response for the identified set of channel path delays in each symbol; storing the average channel impulse responses for the identified channel path delays; generating a path delay curvature for each channel path delay in each symbol based on stored average channel impulse responses for the identified channel path delays; estimating the carrier data in the symbols in the OFDM symbol stream in the presence of inter-channel interference noise and channel noise from the OFDM symbol stream and the average impulse responses for the identified channel path delays; reconstructing the inter-channel interference noise in response to the path delay curvature, the identified set of channel path delays and estimated carrier data; and subtracting the reconstructed inter-channel interference noise from the OFDM symbol stream to produce a symbol stream of carrier data and channel noise with suppressed inter-channel interference noise.
