    • A driving method for a display apparatus produces light emission by applying a sustain discharge pulse repeatedly. A pulse width of the sustain discharge pulse is varied within one subfield and is controlled in accordance with the amount of voltage drop of a sustain discharge voltage. A display apparatus has a display panel section, a data converter, a power supply section, and a sustain discharge pulse control circuit. The data converter receives an image signal and supplies image data suitable for the display apparatus to the display panel section, and the power supply section supplies power to the display panel section. Further, the sustain discharge pulse control circuit varies a pulse width of sustain discharge pulse within one subfield and controls the pulse width of the sustain discharge pulse in accordance with the amount of voltage drop of a sustain discharge voltage.

    • A plasma display panel (PDP) driving apparatus and a gray level expressing method thereof that improves an expression of the gray level using a subfield arrangement that depends on sustain pulses. An input image signal undergoes inverse gamma correction so that an inverse gamma correction gray level corresponding to a number of sustain pulses applied to the PDP is expressed. The inverse gamma correction gray level is converted to subfields that depend on the number of sustain pulses. Alternatively to providing an arbitrary sustain pulse number, the sustain pulse number may be determined per frame according to an average signal level in the input image signal. Then, the inverse gamma table may be determined differently based on the sustain pulse number so as to express the inverse gamma gray level corresponding to the sustain pulse number.

    • An AC-type plasma display panel and a method for driving the AC-type plasma display panel are provided which are capable of reducing discharge leak (crosstalk) between cells being adjacent to each other and of increasing operating range. The AC-type plasma display panel has two insulating substrates both facing each other. On one insulating substrate is formed a plurality of scanning electrodes and a plurality of sustaining electrodes. On another insulating substrate is formed a plurality of data electrodes. Each of the scanning electrodes is made up of each of bus electrodes and each of main discharge electrodes. Each of the main discharge electrodes has a wide electrode portion arranged on a side of a discharge-space-side between the scanning electrode and the sustaining electrode being adjacent to each other, and a narrow electrode portion arranged on a side of a non-discharge-space between two of the scanning electrodes being adjacent to each other or two of sustaining electrodes being adjacent to each other.
