    • The device comprises a sensor (2) which is connected to a movable housing (1) by an elastically deformable mechanism (4).The sensor and the housing are connected to an electric circuit (5) comprising:a capacitive amplifier producing a measurement pulse constituting a datum for a computer and an order for the stopping of the displacement of the sensor when the latter comes into contact with a part to be measured which is mounted in insulated fashion on a measurement table,a short-circuiting device (17-18) producing a safety pulse which constitute an order for the stopping of this displacement in the event of deformation of the mechanism (4) as a result of the non-issuance of the measurement pulse.A measurement is thus taken with full safety without deformation of the linking mechanism and without the part to be measured having to be connected to the electric circuit.

    • Method of determining cylindricity and squareness of mating shaft and bearing members by rotating one member with respect to the other stationary member while using a fluid film as a stiff supporting lubricant to establish a stable and dynamic reference axis, and placing a sensing transducer in the stationary member to measure the variation in distance between the transducer and surface of the rotating member at predetermined increments of rotation and to measure the deviation in squareness in a thrust bearing arrangement. The rotating member is axially translated relative to the transducer and cylindricity measurements made at regular intervals during each of a plurality of revolutions during the axial translation to precisely map the variations in distance to the surface of the rotating member. Squareness measurements are also made under dynamic thrust loading to establish deviations from a true right cylinder.

    • A diameter gage is disclosed which measures a plurality of diameters on a workpiece after the workpiece has been machined. First and second U-shaped gage frames mount first and second gage blocks relative to a gage platform, and this gage platform is moved vertically upwardly to a position whereat the gage blocks of each set straddle different ones of the plurality of different diameters on the workpiece. Parallel leaf springs provide low friction mounting of the gage blocks, and also provide urging means to urge the gage blocks into contact with the opposite sides of the workpiece. An electrical output gage is moved in accordance with the relative movement between the two gage blocks of each set to provide an error signal which is passed to the numerical control to correct the machining diameter of the machine tool which machines successive workpieces.

    • A radius of curvature transducer has an integrally molded body, flexible in a bending mode with two contained wire guide tubes extending the length thereof, spaced laterally from and parallel to the body neutral axis and displaced 90.degree. angularly about the neutral axis. A push-pull wire is fixed to one end of the body and extends freely through each wire guide. An LVDT sensor, having a movable core, is coupled to the free end of each push-pull wire. As the body is subjected to bending, the wires are displaced in the passages and in turn displace the moving member in the LVDT causing signal outputs indicative of the difference in length of the path along which the wire extends relative to the neutral axis. Calculations convert the signals to radius of curvature indications and indications of the coordinates of one end of the transducer body relative to the other end.
