摘要： An improved web infeed mechanism feeds a web of material to receiving rolls of a printing press and includes a web drive roll which is driven from the main press driveline through a chain drive assembly and harmonic drive unit. A hollow dancer roll is pivotally mounted on a pair of support arms and is pressed with a constant pressure against a bight portion of a U-shaped loop in the web by a pair of air cylinders. Upon movement of the hollow dancer roll from an initial position, a resilient member is flexed to change the resistance of a plurality of strain gauges on the resilient member. This results in a change in an output signal from a circuit containing the strain gauges and which signal is utilized to activate control apparatus to vary the peripheral speed of the web drive roll. This control apparatus includes a reversible permanent magnet control motor which is connected by a belt drive to a wave generator in the harmonic drive unit. To provide for an accurate response at different press speeds, the control apparatus also includes a tachometer which provides a signal which is directly proportional to the speed of rotation of the receiving rolls. This signal is multiplied by the signal from the strain gauges to provide an output signal which is utilized to energize the permanent magnet motor and vary the peripheral speed of the web drive roll upon movement of the dancer roll or a change in press speed.

摘要： Photographic processing apparatus having a film transport for serially, selectively, disposing a film of photographic negatives, or the like, upon an aperture that is in light transmitting alignment between a source of light and a printing device. A mounting frame includes a plurality of plate like members assembled to provide one or more adjacent apertures and a transverse slot that intercepts the apertures. A longitudinally elongated film, having indicia disposed thereon in predetermined relationship to areas containing a photographic image, is movably disposed in the slot. At least a pair of indicia responsive devices, such as photocells, are disposed in predetermined relationship with, and adjacent the apertures in the frame so that the image on the film will be disposed over the desired aperture when both of the indicia responsive devices indicate the presence of indicia on the film. A pair of film transporting devices in the form of resilient rubber rollers are disposed to engage the film in the slot on either side of the apertures and are driven in synchronism so as to serially, reversibly move the film past the apertures without exerting any substantive tensional or compressional forces longitudinally of the film to thereby avoid distortion and allow the film to lay flat in the area of the apertures. Motor control circuitry, including suitable logic is connected to the indicia sensing devices, a motor and brake, a source of power and a manual and/or automatic controller to control at least in part, the transporting of a film strip serially of the apertures with automatic or semi-automatic serial movement of the film strip with selective stopping in an aperture as directed. The motor-brake drive, or energizing, circuitry includes means responsive to a plurality of signals derived from the indicia on the film for initiating or stopping the transport of a film strip through the processing apparatus.

摘要： Wire feeding and measuring means for lead making machine comprises capstan which withdraws the wire from a reel or barrel during a major portion of the operating cycle and a set of high speed rolls which operate during only a minor portion of the cycle. Wire is measured and accumulated by the capstan and the measured and accumulated wire is then fed into the machine during the minor portion of the cycle by the high speed rolls. The capstan is controlled by means of a pulse generator which generates a series of pulses in response to the feeding of the wire, the number of pulses generated having a fixed ratio to the length of wire fed. The pulses are transmitted to a counter/controller which controls a printed circuit motor that drives the capstan. The counter can be preset to stop the printed circuit motor after a predetermined length of wire has been fed for a single operating cycle.

摘要： Information retrieval apparatus, particularly for locating a desired frame on a microfilm strip, comprises a photoelectric transducer for detecting the passage therepast of markers on the film strip, each marker being associated with a particular frame, a counter for counting the corresponding signals produced by the transducer, storage means for storing the serial number of a frame to be brought to a reading position, comparing means for continually comparing the count of the counter with the stored serial number, and means for arresting the film movement when the comparison shows equality. The storage means also includes means for storing the serial number of the frame initially in the reading position, this number being also fed into the counting means to provide a datum count. The apparatus also includes means for sensing that the desired frame is approaching the reading position and for slowing down the film so as to avoid overshoot when the film is finally arrested. The apparatus can drive the film in either direction to locate the desired frame and, when one desired frame has been located, a further desired frame can be located without having to rewind the film to a datum position.
