    • A vehicle restraint adapted to be used at a loading dock to restrain a vehicle during loading and unloading operations. The restraint includes a carriage adapted to be mounted to the loading dock, and a restraining member (e.g., a hook) connected to the carriage. The carriage is movable relative to the loading dock between an inoperative position and an operative position that is typically higher than the inoperative position, and is biased towards the operative position when in the operative position. The restraining member is movable relative to the carriage between a restraining position and a nonrestraining position. The restraining member is capable of restraining an ICC bar when in the restraining position, and is biased toward the restraining position independent of the bias of the carriage.

    • A dock seal for sealing the interface between a vehicle and a loading dock, including a resilient member and a flexible material embedded in the resilient member. The dock seal can be made by applying a liquid material over the resilient member and curing the liquid material to form a flexible coating. The liquid material can be applied by spraying, pouring, dipping or brushing. A puncture-resistant material can be positioned adjacent the resilient member before curing the liquid material. In one embodiment, the resilient member is attached to a dock seal frame and mounted to the loading dock.

    • A loading dock comprising a dock wall including a dock opening formed by a generally horizontal upper portion of the dock wall, a resilient head pad mounted in front of the upper portion such that the head pad is positioned to be compressible between the upper portion and a back of a vehicle when a vehicle is positioned at the loading dock, and a tether member interconnecting the head pad with the upper portion. The tether member is positioned to facilitate substantially vertical movement of the head pad relative to the upper portion. The assembly can further include a substantially rigid support member connected to the dock wall. Preferably, the loading dock further includes a back pad (e.g., a resilient pad) connected to the dock wall, and the head pad comprises a front pad positioned adjacent the back pad. One portion of the tether member can be secured to the front pad and another portion of the tether member can be secured to the back pad.

    • A vehicle restraint is provided for releasably securing a parked vehicle to an adjacent structure. The vehicle restraint includes a carriage assembly which is adjustably vertically mounted to the adjacent structure and a restraining member which is pivotably attached to the carriage assembly for rotational movement between a stored (or vehicle-release) position, wherein the restraining member is enclosed within the carriage assembly, and an operative (or vehicle-locking) position, wherein a portion of the restraining member projects outwardly and upwardly from the carriage assembly. The vehicle restraint also includes a locking mechanism for preventing rotation of the restraining member into the stored position when an external force or torque, in a direction toward the stored position, is exerted on the distal end of the restraining member. The locking mechanism includes a first locking member which is attached to the restraining member, and a second locking member which is attached to the carriage assembly and is positioned for selective engagement by the first locking member when the restraining member is rotated between the operative and stored positions. In use, engagement between the first and second locking members prevents rotation of the restraining member into the stored position when the external force or torque is exerted on the distal end of the restraining member.

    • A mechanical track restraint that can be mounted to a loading dock without any modification whatsoever to the loading dock or to the concrete pad that is poured in front of the loading dock on which a truck sits during the loading process. The mechanical track restraint can be bolted onto the dock, can be removed and replaced with another device, moved to another location easily and quickly, and can be installed and/or repaired quickly. The device includes a base having a pipe and angle irons welded to the pipe to hold the pipe in place. Fitted within the pipe is a dowel and a spring that coils about the dowel. Fitted over the dowel and spring combination is a holding tube which telescopes within the pipe. The pipe has a slot cut in the front of it so that a hook which is hingedly connected to the holding tube can extend out from the pipe and travel in an up and down direction to raise and lower the hook. Sleeves are welded to the holding tube and the hook includes pivot arms extending into the sleeves. Thus, the hook can be raised and lowered in response to the pressure of the spring unless the hook is pressed down and rotated into an "at rest" position. When the hook is rotated into an at rest position, it is clipped beneath a lock arm in an out of the way position to prevent injury to the device and to others passing near the device. An engagement tool is provided so that the hook can be pressed down against the pressure of the spring to release it from the locking arm, rotated into an active position and released so that the pressure of the spring will cause it to rise and engage the ICC bar on the rear of a track backed up to the dock.
