摘要： A method for molding a tire tread element by injecting a rubber mixture through injection holes of an injection mold formed by moving two cooperating mold elements toward a cylindrical drum disposed therebetween. The mold elements sealingly match to an outer surface of the inflatable drum to define a mold cavity of a cross-section and length selected to form a tread element of precisely defined shape and size. A breaker layer may be integrated with an injected rubber mixture and the tread element may be made to be completely circular or linear with matchingly formed end surfaces enabling secure adherence thereat.

In order to obtain the advantages of slitting while avoiding cracking and breaking off of tread elements during use, the slit angle, general guides for the tire size and type and slit depth should be chosen within prescribed limits, and additional voids such as shoulder grooves, cross grooves and cross molded voids should be parallel to the slits. Tie bars integral at their ends with tread elements extend across the tread grooves to provide lateral support for the tread elements.

The invention also provides an apparatus for the injection molding of a tread on a tire body having a plurality of feeding channels symmetrically arranged around the injection cavity, a plurality of equalization chambers arranged with the same symmetry and into which the feeding channels flow, and a plurality of injection orifices which connect each chamber with the cavity, the ratio between the sections of the injection orifices and the section of the feeding channels and the number of injection orifices where the delivery of each feeding channel spreads, being such that, when a fluid mix for molding the tread is flowing through them, the ratio between respective gradients .gamma. of average sliding is now lower than 8.

The apparatus includes a supporting bench and drive rollers to move the tread rubber lengthwise along the bench. The tread rubber passes beneath a staple driver that is movable transversely with respect to the rubber. Mounted on the shaft of one of the drive rollers is a tread design cam that is constructed to coordinate with the particular tread design. A follower for this cam is operably connected to the staple driver whereby the positioning of the staples that are inserted conforms to the tread design.

摘要： A vehicle tire has a rubber tread portion with laterally-spaced, circumferentially-extending rider strips, each rider strip being zigzag in plan view so that the sides of the rider strips present alternating peaks and valleys. A helical wire coil extends circumferentially of the tire in each rider strip, with the peaks on the sides of the rider strips providing rubber stock which projects beyond the sides of the wire coils to retain the latter in position during use. This rubber stock is in the form of a series of triangular blocks and there is a sipe slit extending transversely into each of said triangular blocks from the peak thereof.
