    • Traversing yarn guiding rods in textile machines producing X-packages are often made of carbon fibers for the purpose of reducing the inertia force. These kinds of traversing yarn guiding rods are prone to wear at their bearing points. For this reason, the bearings, having a distance to one another which corresponds to at least twice, preferably three times the traversing stroke, are collectively replaced from time to time, in such a way that the yarn guide rod is supported at different places than before. The replacement bearings are applied staggered to the old bearing points in such a way that the new bearing points now have a distance to the exposed previous bearing points, which distance corresponds to at least one traverse stroke. This results in the replacement bearings acting with a non-worn part of the fiber guiding rod. The life of the yarn guiding rod is thus significantly increased.

    • A salvage method for a turbocharger bearing housing includes the steps of removing the bearing housing from the turbocharger, setting up the bearing housing on a lathe and machining the worn or damaged surfaces at one end of the bearing housing where such damage has been caused by the turbocharger heat shield. Once the metal is removed from the worn or damaged portions of the bearing housing a salvage sleeve having a hollow, generally cylindrical shape is pressed down onto the prepared surfaces of the housing. Since the assembly of the salvage sleeve to the machine bearing housing will be an interference fit, the salvage sleeve is heated so that it can slide freely onto the machined outside diameter of the bearing housing. Once the sleeve cools and the interference fit is established, the salvage sleeve is machined so as to reestablish the original dimensions of the turbocharger bearing housing prior to becoming worn or damaged.

    • A bearing and a method for extending the life of such bearing is disclosed. The bearing is shown to include an inner ring having first and second race channels, wherein each race channel defines first and second raceways adapted for contact with loaded rolling elements. An outer ring is shown to have third and fourth race channels, wherein each race channel defines first and second raceways adapted for contact with loaded rolling elements. A plurality of rolling elements are positioned within the race channels and are preferably oriented so that the axis of rotation of rolling elements in the first race channel is uniform and the axis of rotation of rolling elements in the second race channel is uniform. A pair of ports formed in one of the rings, each port intercepting at least one of the race channels, wherein each port has a cross-sectional area sufficient to permit the re-orientation or replacement of the axis of rotation of the rolling elements without having to remove the bearing from its installation. The rolling elements preferably are constructed such that their diameter is greater than their length. By re-orienting or replacing the rolling elements by means of the ports, the life of bearings constructed in accordance with the invention is extended without the need to disassemble either the bearing or the machine in which the bearing is installed.

    • An assembly for supporting and turning a rotating display sign, radar dish, or like rotating assembly and a method for installing and removing same. The bearing assembly is coupled to a turntable on which the rotating assembly is mounted. The turntable can selectively be arranged to be turned and supported by a shaft and bearing of the bearing assembly, or it can be lowered onto and connected to a rotator frame which supports the bearing assembly, turntable, and rotating assembly. When the turntable is connected to the rotator frame the weight of the rotating assembly is shifted from the bearing assembly and is placed on the rotator frame allowing the bearing assembly to be removed therefrom for repair or replacement. The turntable can be used to permanently, immovably mount a sign or the like or to immovably mount such an assembly in advance of a later installation of a bearing structure and a rotating drive structure.
