    • A computer housing has a front panel, a cover and a chassis, wherein the front panel and the cover are connected together. A mechanism for latching and releasing the front panel and the cover with and from the chassis include a match opening defined in a side of the front panel, a latch member, a spring and a locking hole defined in the chassis. The latch member has an arm extending towards the chassis terminating in a hooked portion to engage the locking hole. The latch member and the spring are received in the matching opening and are movable between a locked position where the arm is locked in the locking hole and a released position where the arm disengages the locking hole. The spring urges against the base to retain the latch member in the locked position.

    • An enclosure for housing electronic circuitry having a base and a cover with side walls includes a non-exposed fastening mechanism for securing, sealing, centering, and releasing the cover relative to the base. The fastening mechanism includes a ledge on the inside of a cover side wall and a restraining clip having a fixed leg mounted to the base and a flexible leg movable towards and away from the fixed leg and which engages the ledge when the cover is positioned on the base. A resilient gasket is fastened to the cover and positioned to seal the cover to the base and to be resiliently compressed when the cover is positioned on the base. The resilient compression of the gasket maintains the flexible leg in contact with the ledge to secure the cover to the base. The flexible leg also maintains the cover side wall away from the base. Several restraining clips are spaced apart on the base so that the flexible legs center the cover in at least one direction relative to the base. Access holes are provided through the cover to allow a screwdriver or other implement to pass therethru to move the flexible leg towards its respective fixed leg and thereby disengage the flexible leg from the ledge, releasing the cover from the base. The restraining clip is further provided with a projection to prevent overtravel of the flexible leg when releasing the cover from the base.

    • The present invention provides enclosures for protecting equipment, particularly electrical equipment, from electromagnetic interference. The enclosure includes at least two EMI-shielding portions which, when assembled, at least partially enclose a piece of equipment to be shielded. The first EMI-shielding portion of the enclosure is provided with a first interlocking element. The first interlocking element is integrally formed with the first EMI-shielding portion. A second EMI-shielding portion of the enclosure includes a second integrally-formed interlocking element. The first and second interlocking elements connect the first and second EMI-shielding portions of the enclosure such that electromagnetic energy is not transferred through the connected first and second interlocking elements at a substantially greater rate than through the remaining portions of the enclosure. In this manner, a self-fastening EMI-shielding enclosure is obtained which houses equipment without the need for added mechanical fastening elements, such as screws and bolts.

    • This invention relates to a housing assembly design which reduces the number of screws required to attach the housing parts together. According to the preferred embodiment of this invention, the housing of a hand-held computer is assembled and held together by a combination of hooks, screws, and tabs. Preferably, the tabs mate with slots or grooves formed on the perimeter of apertures such as input/output ports in the housing. Once the housing is assembled, each tab forms part of the perimeter of the aperture into which it is inserted. The hooks and screws mate with corresponding hooks and screw holes, respectively, formed in the housing.
