摘要： An image processing method and apparatus which divides image information into a plurality of predetermined-sized partial images, and sequentially performs designated image processing by partial image, thus enables image processing of the read image data using a small memory capacity. In the apparatus, an image reader reads image information, in accordance with a designated reading size, and stores the read image data, as partial image data, into an image memory. Then, a designated special-effect image processing is performed on the partial image data stored in the image memory. An image output unit sequentially outputs special-effect image processed partial images.

摘要： An image scanner-reader has an image read unit, and an employing control unit. The image read unit is used to read an original document and provide image data of the original document. The employing control unit is used to control the relative moving speed between the original document and the image read unit, and when an original document reading operation is suspended, the employing control unit controls the restart of the reading operation after decreasing the relative moving speed to a slow reading speed of the original document. Therefore, when the image data buffer becomes full enough to cause a suspension state, and the read operation is restarted after changing control conditions, so that the quantity of data transferred to the image data buffer is reduced. Namely, according to the present invention, the number of occurrences of the suspension state can be greatly reduced, and thereby the overal reading speed can be improved without increasing the data receiving speed of a host device.

摘要： A method and apparatus for reducing the distortion of image signals captured by an asynchronous scanning system during a transient period caused by temporarily disabling the scanning operation. Where in during normal operation, the asynchronous scanning system drives a document to be scanned relative to a scanning array which produces image signals representative of the document. Subsequently, the signals are transmitted to a host through an interface at a rate which may exceed the reception rate of the host, the asynchronous operation of the scanning system being regulated by start and stop signals which, respectively, enable and disable the scanning operation. The method used for reducing the image signal distortion during the transient period includes storing the image signals for the scanline acquired by the scanning array prior to disabling the scanning operation and storing at least one scanline of image signals for the scanlines acquired by the scanning array subsequent to restarting the scanning operation. Subsequently, the stored image signals are interpolated to generate additional scanlines of corrected image signals to replace those scanlines lost or those distorted while the scanning system was operating in the transient state.

The image reading apparatus also repeatedly reads an image of a moving manuscript. The image information read by scanning the fixed manuscript in the second direction may be memorized in the sequential read order. If so, the image information read by the scanning of the moving manuscript in the second direction is memorized in an order opposite to the sequential read order and then is read out in the sequential read order the same as the order of the image information of the fixed manscript.
