摘要： A system and method for transmitting program data including immersive content is provided. A generated immersive video stream is first choreographed. Then, based on this choreography, the relevant macroblocks of the immersive video stream can be identified and compressed. At this point, the compressed macroblocks of the immersive video stream are ready for transmission to a distribution system. In one embodiment, a plurality of immersive video streams can be choreographed and compressed. These compressed immersive video streams can be multiplexed for transmission and subsequently de-multiplexed for display. Before display, the relevant macroblocks can be decompressed. In one embodiment, one or more terminals can display a plurality of previews associated with at least one program, and at least one preview can include immersive content. The plurality of previews can be individually or simultaneously activated.

摘要： Method and apparatus for providing a receiver a high quality video signal and a plurality of lower quality video signals which can be zapped, i.e., searched through at any given time, via a channel having a limited data capacity. A first set of high quality video signals is present at a transmitter, e.g., fifty programs having a 10 Mbit/s data rate. A second set of video signals which is a subset of the first set of video signals is sent to the receiver in response to a control signal which indicates the programs a viewer has selected to be viewed at high quality, e.g., using the full 10 Mbit/s of data. A third set of video signals is also sent from the transmitter to the receiver. This third set of video signals represents low quality programs, e.g., signals having a 1 Mbit/s data rate, which can be searched. The video signals in the third set of video signals correspond to signals in the first set of video signals but have a video data content that is only a fraction of that of the corresponding video signals. When all programs present at the transmitter are supplied to the receiver as lower quality, e.g., 1 Mbit/s, video signals, it is possible to search through all the programs without having to send the transmitter a control signal to implement the search and without overloading the data capacity of the channel used to provide the video signals.

In addition, the source encoding application further configures the processor to select a portion of the source video, transcode the selected portion of the source video into a plurality of alternative portions of encoded video, where each alternative portion is encoded using a different set of encoding parameters and commences with an intra frame starting a closed Group of Pictures (GOP), write each of the alternative portions of encoded video to an element of a different EBML container file, where each element is located within an EBML container file that also includes another element that indicates the encoding parameters used to encode the alternative portion of encoded video, and add an entry to at least one index that identifies the location of the element containing one of the alternative portions of encoded video within each of the EBML container files.

摘要： A method, system and computer program product for selecting a bitrate to stream encoded media. A manifest file is fetched, where the manifest file contains metadata for encoded media segments which includes tags signifying the associated encoded media segments being important to the viewer. A playback occupancy level is then increased before reaching these tagged media segment(s). A high bitrate (high quality) is selected to stream the tagged media segment(s) which are then fetched and played at the selected high bitrate in response to the new playback buffer occupancy level being above a threshold level. In this manner, those media segments that are of higher importance to the viewer will be viewed in a higher quality since content information is used to select the bitrate to receive the encoded media segments. As a result, the user's quality of experience in viewing media is improved.

摘要： A method of adapting content-stream bandwidth includes generating a content stream for transmission over an unmanaged network with varying capacity and sending the content stream toward a client device. The method includes monitoring the capacity of the unmanaged network and determining whether an aggregate bandwidth of an upcoming portion of the content stream fits the capacity. The upcoming portion of the content stream includes video content and user-interface data. The method further includes, in response to a determination that the aggregate bandwidth of the upcoming portion of the content stream does not fit the capacity, prioritizing low latency for the user-interface data over maintaining a frame rate of the video content when the user-interface data is the result of a user interaction and reducing a size of the upcoming portion of the content stream in accordance with the prioritizing. The reducing comprises decreasing the frame rate of the video content.
