    • A solenoid valve includes a valve housing in which a spool valve element is fitted to be reciprocably slidable along an axis; a magnet coil that moves the spool valve element in a first direction along the axis by an action of an electromagnetic force; a return spring that biases the spool valve element in a second direction, opposite to the first direction, and moves the spool valve element in the second direction when the magnet coil is not excited; and first and second attraction members that are respectively fixed to the spool valve element and the valve housing such that they are spaced from each other along the axis by a distance no less than a maximum moving amount of the spool valve element and attract each other by an attraction force smaller than a bias force of the return spring when the magnet coil is not excited.

    • An electromagnetic actuator includes an electromagnet having a yoke and an operating coil supported by the yoke and connectable to a controllable current supply for effecting a current flow through said operating coil. An armature is movable from a first position remote from the pole face of the electromagnet to a second, pole face-engaging position in response to a first electromagnetic force generated by a current flow through the operating coil. A resetting spring is coupled to the armature and opposes the first electromagnetic force. Further, a circuit is provided which is formed of a braking coil supported by the yoke and a switching element having open and closed states. The circuit is closed in the closed state of the switching element and is in the open state of the switching element. Also, a switch control arrangement is provided which is responsive at least indirectly to a distance of the armature from the pole face during motion of the armature toward the pole face for placing the switching element into its closed state when the armature is at a given distance from the pole face, whereby the circuit is closed for producing a second electromagnetic force opposing the first electromagnetic force.

    • A magnetic latching solenoid assembly comprises a bobbin having a central aperture formed therethrough along a central axis and having a solenoid coil wrapped therearound, and a metal polepiece secured at least partially within the bobbin. An at least partially metal armature is slidably movable within the central aperture. The polepiece includes a depression formed therein with a first flat formed at the bottom of the depression. The depression has a first wall formed at a first angle with respect to the central axis. The armature has a protruding portion for cooperation with the depression, the protruding portion having a second flat formed thereon for metal-to-metal engagement with the first flat, and having a second wall formed at a second angle greater than the first angle so that the first and second walls do not contact each other when the first and second flats are in contact.
