    • A method and system for implementing time scale modification wherein the method includes a Zero Crossing Module (22) for determining zero crossing points in the signal, a Feature Vector Module (24) for generating feature vectors describing the zero crossing points, a Distance Metric Module (26) for generating distance metrics describing local characteristics at the zero crossing points, an Alignment Module (28) for using the feature vectors and distance metrics for aligning and synchronizing the signal in accordance with local similarities and similarity over a selected time interval to generate a time scale modified signal. The present invention also includes a Cross Fade Module (20) for smoothing transitions between successive frames of the resulting time scale modified signal.

    • In an audio signal processor, an input device inputs a polyphonic audio signal containing a plurality of melodic parts which constitute a music composition. A detecting device detects a particular one of the melodic parts contained in the input polyphonic audio signal. An extracting device extracts the detected melodic part from the input polyphonic audio signal. A harmony generating device shifts a pitch of the extracted melodic part to generate a harmony audio signal representative of an additional harmony part. An output device mixes the generated harmony audio signal to the input polyphonic audio signal so as to sound the music composition which contains the additional harmony part derived from the particular one of the melodic parts.

    • Disclosed are a method and apparatus for analyzing an input vocal signal to produce a plurality of harmony signals that are combined with the input vocal signal to produce a multivoice signal. The method makes a current estimate of the fundamental frequency of the input vocal signal and determines if the current estimate is the correct estimate of the fundamental frequency. If the current estimate is correct, a reference note is assigned to correspond to the current estimate and a plurality of harmony notes are selected to correspond to the reference note. The method then generates a plurality of harmony signals by scaling the input vocal signal with a piecewise linear approximation of a Hanning window to extract a portion of the input vocal signal and by replicating the extracted portion at a plurality of rates equal to the fundamental frequencies of each of the harmony notes. The plurality of harmony signals and the input vocal signal are combined to produce the multivoice signal. The steps of the method are carried out with a microprocessor and a signal processing circuit.
