    • Disclosed is a voice thermoscan having a main body in which a sensor circuit, a microprocessor, a liquid crystal display (LCD), an electronic erasable programmable read-only memory (EEPROM), and a communication interface are included. When the voice thermoscan is used to take a patient's temperature, the sensor circuit senses an infrared heat at a temperature point on the patient's eardrum and sends a corresponding signal to the microprocessor for the same to sample and digitize the signal and compare the digitized signal with corrected data stored in the EEPROM, in order to verify the temperature value of the infrared heat and output the comparison result to the LCD for display. The microprocessor can also output the value of temperature to the communication interface to indicate the value of temperature by voice or music and also voice and music. Thereby, the thermoscan can be conveniently used by all people, including the blind.

    • An on-chip thermometer and methods for using the on-chip thermometer to measure a local temperature and to operate an integrated circuit. The on-chip thermometer comprises a clock circuit, a temperature responsive circuit, and a counter. The clock circuit operates at a fixed frequency and generates a fixed frequency clock signal. The temperature responsive circuit, when enabled, generates a signal dependent on local temperature. In response to receiving the clock signal, the temperature responsive circuit generates an output signal. The counter is coupled to receive the output signal from the temperature responsive circuit and the clock signal. The counter then generates a value indicative of a local temperature of the integrated circuit. A method of measuring a local temperature on an integrated circuit comprises generating a clock signal at a fixed frequency, providing the clock signal to a temperature responsive circuit, the temperature responsive circuit generating an oscillating signal comprising a plurality of oscillations dependent on a local temperature of the integrated circuit in response to receiving the clock signal, and counting the oscillations to generate a value indicative of the local temperature. On an integrated circuit including a plurality of processing modules located at respective locations with a plurality of on-chip thermometers, a task delegation module is coupled to each of the on-chip thermometers and the processing modules. Each on-chip thermometer generates a value indicative of a local temperature. The task delegation module receives output values from the on-chip thermometers and assigns processing tasks to the processing modules based on the local temperatures at each respective location.

    • A method of and system for determining the location of hot spots on the surface of an object which has thermotropic material applied to the surface are disclosed. The system is designed to varying the nominal temperature of the object through a range of nominal temperatures between a first nominal temperature limit and a second nominal temperature limit, wherein one temperature limit is below and the other nominal temperature limit is above the temperature at which the thermotropic material changes phase. A sequence of images of the surface are acquired, each of the images depicting a two dimensional temperature representation of the surface at a predetermined nominal temperature within the range of nominal temperatures, wherein each image in the sequence represents an incremental change in nominal temperature than that of a preceding image. Select ones of the images are processed to define the intensity signature of valid hot spots in the select ones of the images and to determine the location of the hot spots on the surface as a function of the defined intensity signature.

    • In a semiconductor integrated circuit, a temperature sensor circuit includes a pulse source for generating a count pulse and a resistor having a resistance changing dependently upon a temperature change. The temperature detecting circuit is configured to convert the change of the resistance of the resistor responding to the temperature change, into the pulse number of the count pulses, in response to each application of a temperature measuring signal having a first frequency, in order to generate a count signal. A counter counts the count signal and accumulates a count value for each temperature measuring signal so as to hold the accumulated count value. The counter outputs the accumulated count value in response to a reset signal having a second frequency lower than the first frequency. The counter is then reset by the reset signal.
