    • A range selector issues a range selection command signal representative of an operation range of a shift-by-wire type automatic transmission meeting with a driver's intention. The operating range is at least one of P(parking)-range, R(reverse)-range, N(neutral)-range and D(drive)-range. An actuator causes the transmission to assume a certain operation range when receiving an instruction signal. A control unit issues the instruction signal by processing the range selection command signal, so that the transmission is able to assume an operation range that meets with the driver's intention. The control unit is configured to carry out, when the range selector fails to issue the range selection command signal, presuming a range selection intended by the driver based on a previous operation of the range selector; and based on the presumption, causing through the actuator the transmission to actually carry out at least one of first and second range selection operations. The first range selection operation meets with the driver's intention and the second range selection operation is to maintain the operation range that has been kept just before the failure of the range selector.

    • The invention relates to a method for early recognition of abnormal occurrences in the operation of automatic or automated gearboxes wherein at least one variable Akraftschl. directly or indirectly characterizing the strain on elements which are to be coupled to each other in a non-positive fit is continuously determined after an n-th shift at least until a synchronous rev speed is reached or during a maximum shift period Tmax; wherein the variable Akraftschlnullssig characterizing the strain on the elements that are to be coupled is mathematically combined with the time, or if several variables Akraftschlnullssig Exist, said variables are mathematically combined with each other and the product of said combination is added up in the form of a variable Wsum; wherein the product thereof is compared with a first pre-definable or defined threshold value Wmax0 Which, if exceeded, defines a state from which damage can be deduced and the shift action is aborted.

    • A method and apparatus for detecting a restricted or bypassed transmission oil filter by providing pressure transducers on both sides of the oil filter whereby the pressure differential will indicate the extent of filter restriction. A first alarm is activated at a first pressure differential to indicate a restricted filter and the need for filter replacement. A second, higher level, alarm is activated to indicate the filter is bypassed and the engine is reduced in speed to allow the pressure and the pressure differential to drop to the point that the filter is no longer bypassed. This enables the vehicle to be operated with limited capabilities to allow the vehicle to be driven to the shop for filter replacement. If the lowered engine speed is insufficient to reduce the pressure differential to stop the bypass, then the engine speed is further reduced to a low idle and the transmission shifted to neutral. The filter must be replaced before the vehicle is can be operated again to prevent damage to the hydrostatic unit in the transmission.

    • To make it possible to maintain speeds during failures in an automatic transmission that does not have exclusive friction elements corresponding to the attainment of each speed. The hydraulic control apparatus of an automatic transmission, provided with control means 71-74 for supplying regulated pressure to each of the hydraulic servos 81-84 that are first through fourth friction elements to which hydraulic pressure is supplied from the oil path L1, and provided with switching valves (1)-(5) for cutting off the supply of hydraulic pressure to friction elements other than the friction elements that engage in each speed, on the upstream side of the supply paths L31, L32, L10, L11 and L12. Each switching valve is switched by hydraulic pressure (C1-C3, B1 pressures) regulated by the control means that achieve regulated pressure operating conditions during failures, and selective application of signal pressure (Sol, SolB, SoIC pressures) output by the control means as operating means. In a speed that has been attained, the supply path to friction elements that are not to be engaged is cut off. Through this, even during failures the regulated pressure action of the control means corresponding to friction elements that are not to be engaged is ineffective, so the speed that has been attained is fixed.

    • A control device for an automatic drive of an automobile having an adjusting device that is actuatable by an accelerator pedal comprising a deflector roll with which transmission means for a slide unit of the drive and for a spring-loaded throttle valve of an internal combustion engine are connected. The transmission means includes a cable that is connected to the adjusting device and is led to the slide unit and to the accelerator pedal. The cable is held in the deflector roll by a securing means. The transmission means is also connected with a rotatable actuator lever for the throttle valve. According to a preferred embodiment, the deflector roll has a guide groove for the cable and a recess in which a clamping sleeve is fastened to the cable, the clamping sleeve being held within the recess under the tensioning of the cable, whereby the clamping sleeve is released from the recess upon a rupturing of the cable. The arrangement prevents damage to the automatic drive that could occur if the engine was permitted to race during actuation of the accelerator pedal with the automatic drive in an idle setting.
