摘要： The present invention provides multiple layer interlayers having a soft inner polymer layer and relatively stiff outer layers that can be laminated without unacceptable optical distortion and used in various multiple layer glass panel type applications. Multiple layer interlayers of the present invention have surface topography that is formed by controlling the melt fracture that occurs at the exposed surface of the interlayer, or individual layers of the multiple layer interlayer, during formation of the interlayer. By precisely controlling the surface topography of the interlayer, lamination of the interlayer with a rigid substrate does not lead to unacceptable optical distortion caused by the transfer of the surface topography through outer, stiffer layers into softer, internal layers of the interlayer.

Also provided herein are methods of manufacturing rolls of relatively thick, continuous ionomeric sheeting. Further provided herein are methods of producing glass laminates, wherein the relatively thick ionomeric sheeting is not conditioned to reduce curvature prior to stacking the pre-press assembly. These continuous rolls eliminate costly cutting and stacking steps in ionomeric sheeting that is intended for use as interlayers in laminated structures, for example safety glass and photovoltaic cells.

摘要： Embodiments of the invention contemplate the formation of a solar cell module comprising an array of interconnected solar cells that are formed using an automated processing sequence that is used to form a novel planar solar cell interconnect structure. In one embodiment, the module structure described herein includes a patterned adhesive layer that is disposed on a backsheet to receive and bond a plurality of conducting ribbons thereon. The substantially planar bonded conducting ribbons are then used to interconnect an array of solar cell devices to form a solar cell module that can be electrically connected to one or more external components, such as an electrical power grid, satellites, electronic devices or other similar power requiring units. Embodiments of the invention may further provide a roll-to-roll system that is configured to serially form a plurality of solar cell modules over different portions of a backsheet material received from a roll of backsheet material.

摘要： A method for laminating glass sheets wherein laminating film (1) is placed over one surface of a first glass sheet (2) and the film (1) is heated with short wave radiation (4) to a bonding temperature. Heated areas (8) of the film (1) are successively pressed to the glass sheet (2) in a continuous manner for purging air from between the film (1) and the first glass sheet (2) and for applying bonding pressure. The pressed film areas (8) are then cooled whereby an appropriate bond is attained between the film (1) and the first glass sheet (2). Thereafter the first glass sheet (2) with its bonded film is subjected to a partial vacuum and a second glass sheet (10) is positioned on the film (1) and the second glass sheet (10) is pressed (11) to the film (1). The film (1) is then reheated in selected areas with short wave radiation (12) to a bonding temperature and thereafter cooled whereby an appropriate bond is obtained between the selected film (1) areas and the second glass sheet (10) to provide a glass lamination.
