摘要： The PLANT for the esterification of a fatty acid F includes a column with a packing. In addition to functioning as a catalytic reactor, the packing functions as a stripping section. A heteregenous catalysis of a fatty acid is carried out with an alcohol used in the same molar ratio or in excess. A gaseous alcohol-rich counter-flow is produced in a sump of the column by vaporisation. Water is removed from the reaction zone by means of the counter-flow acting as a stripping gas. The loaded stripping gas is at least partially liquefied at the head of the column. The head product is separated into a water-rich fraction as well as an alcohol-rich fraction. The alcohol-rich fraction is returned to the process as a starting material for the esterification and for the production of the stripping gas.

摘要： A catalytic reactor (10) comprises a plurality of fluid-impermeable elements (tubes or plates) (12) defining flow channels (15) between them. Tight fitting within each flow channel (15) is a sheet (16) of corrugated material whose surfaces are coated with catalytic material. At each end of the reactor (10) are headers (18) to supply gas mixtures to the flow channels (15), the headers communicating with adjacent channels being separate. The reactor (10) enables different gas mixtures to be supplied to adjacent channels (15), which may be at different pressures, and the corresponding chemical reactions are also different. Where one of the reactions is endothermic while the other reaction is exothermic, heat is transferred through the wall of the tube (12) separating the adjacent channels (15), from the exothermic reaction to the endothermic reaction. The reactor (10) may be used in a compact plant to perform steam/methane reforming, obtaining the necessary heat by catalytic methane combustion and also for Fisher-Tropsh synthesis.

The substrate may be a glass, polymeric or ceramic composition containing micropores, channels or conduits which receive oxidizing, reducing and/or pH agents and is more generally comprised of a length of mesh or cloth-like material which is folded in accordion-shaped fashion. A plurality of panels are created by the folding, each being adapted with at least one aperture for the slidable reception of the UV light source there through. The subject device may be removably installed within conventional and more novel, commercially available UV chambers without modification thereof or the use of invasive mounting means.

摘要： Novel heat exchangers and methods of constructing the heat exchangers for use in indirect evaporative cooling applications. The evaporative apparatus for cooling comprises both a multi-stage indirect evaporative cooling heat exchanger; and a multi-stage sump where each sump stage, in a one-to-one relationship. Other multistage heat exchangers with their associated multistage sumps can be combined, with the cooled air of a first multistage evaporative assembly feeding into the intake end of a second multistage evaporative assembly, and so on. These heat exchangers can be used for comfort and industrial applications cooling. The invention can be an entire assembly for the pre-cooling and cleaning of the air going to a gas turbine or any other air breathing device, with an air washer stage in which air is directly cooled by evaporation and where simultaneously the air is also cleaned of dust, dirt and other impurities.

摘要： The present invention provides a structured packing comprising a plurality of corrugated sheets and a plurality of flat, planar members alternating with and located between the sheets to inhibit turbulence in vapor ascending through the structured packing. The plurality of planar members are positioned so that at least lowermost transverse edges of the planar members and the corrugated sheets are situated at least proximal to one another as viewed when said structured packing is in use. Each of the planar members and the corrugated sheets has perforations sized to inhibit liquid and vapor flows but to allow pressure equalization. The planar members can be strip-like and positions at or near the top and bottom transverse edges of the corrugated sheets or can have the same length and width of the corrugated sheets. The size and number of perforations can be optimized for air separation applications.

The grooves are closed into channels by the surf ace of an opposed plate. The ribs may engage the end surfaces of ribs on an adjacent space or may be interleaved with the ribs of an opposed plate to form smaller channels. The plates are adhered to each other by firing a stack of plates in the green state or wrapping film or bands around a stack of pre-fired plates. The elements may be preassembled into larger units before placement in a column by wrapping metal bands around an assembly of elements.
