    • An X-ray optical alignment system for X-ray imaging devices includes a visible-light point source and a multi-axis positioner therefor, fixedly mounted with respect to the X-ray focal spot. A mirror or beamsplitter is fixedly mounted with respect to the X-ray focal spot and disposed in the beam path of the X-ray source. The beamsplitter reflects light emitted from the light source and transmits X-rays emitted from the X-ray source. A first X-ray attenuating grid is fixedly but removably mountable with respect to the X-ray source, having a first X-ray attenuation pattern; and a second X-ray attenuating grid is adjustably mountable with respect to the first grid having a second X-ray attenuating pattern corresponding to the first X-ray attenuating pattern. When the grids are aligned, their attenuating patterns are also aligned and allow X-rays from the X-ray source and light reflected from the beamsplitter to pass therethrough.

The X-ray device includes an X-ray generator, connected to the controller and at least one camera, connected to the controller. The controller is embodied to receive image data of a patient or object from the camera. The controller includes an analytical module, embodied to analyze image data from the camera and to generate at least one control signal for control of the X-ray generator depending on the result of the analysis of the image data, transmitted thereto by the controller.

    • A radiotherapeutic apparatus comprises a source of therapeutic radiation, a source of visible light arranged to cast a light field corresponding to the beam of radiation, and a multileaf collimator for shaping the beams, wherein a filter is disposed in the path of the visible light beam having a plurality of linear dark sections corresponding to leaves of the collimator. This prevents the incident light from falling on the leaves and removes the ghost images at source. By placing the filter in the head, the line can be very narrow and will be blurred into penumbra at the isocentre. This is therefore a very inexpensive yet effective method of reducing ghosting. A mirror can deflect the path of the visible light to correspond to that of the radiation beam, and the filter can be disposed anywhere in the beam path, such as prior to the mirror, subsequent to the mirror and prior to the collimator, or subsequent to the collimator. The filter thus creates dark sections in the light field corresponding to leaves (preferably all the leaves) of the collimator.

    • A system, tracker, program product, and methods to facilitate and verify proper target alignment for radiation delivery are provided. The system includes a radiation delivery apparatus having a radiation emitter, a rotating assembly controlled by a controller, and an application computer which provides treatment delivery instructions to the controller. The system also includes a trackable body having a trackable body reference point to be positioned adjacent a surface point of a patient to determine a position of such surface point. The system also includes an apparatus to track a trackable body which has a trackable body detector to detect a position of indicators carried by the trackable body and a trackable body determiner to determine a position of the trackable body reference point. The system also includes a target alignment analyzing computer having memory and target alignment analyzing program product stored therein to aid a user of the system to make and display various patient body-surface related measurements.
