    • An HVAC system and method for configuring a controller to control a compressor including a detection system provided to determine a type of compressor. The detection system includes a processor; and a load sensing circuit connected between the processor and a controller. The controller has a plurality of output connections connectable to a compressor. The load sensing circuit senses whether a load is present on each output connection of the plurality of output connections and provides a load signal to the processor indicating whether a load is present on each output connection. The load signals are processed with the processor to determine the type of compressor is present. The controller is configured to control the compressor in response to the determined type of compressor.

    • A single medium voltage starter box is mounted on a chiller unit with the other components of the chiller system. The starter box can be positioned on the chiller system unit to permit the starter box to be close coupled to the motor, and specifically to the main motor lead exit hub without the need for any power conduit connections between the starter box and the motor. In addition, the starter box also does not require any control interface and receives controls from a control panel. A short conduit connection between the control panel and the starter box is used to provide the necessary connections between the control panel and the starter box.

    • A system and process for loading control software into the control panel of a liquid chiller system is provided. A PCMCIA card socket is installed on a circuit board of a liquid chiller control system and is in direct connection with microprocessor data and address buses. A linear flash PCMCIA card having new control software for the control panel is inserted into the PCMCIA card socket when the control panel is de-energized. The control software from the PCMCIA card is loaded into a flash memory of the control system by software executed directly from the PCMCIA card. The software in the PCMCIA card erases the flash memory of the control system, copies the control software from the PCMCIA card to the flash memory and then confirms that the copy of the control software was successful. After the control software has been copied, the control panel is de-energized, the PCMCIA card is removed and the chiller system is restarted and executes the new control software stored in the flash memory.

    • An apparatus and method for a panel construction for an air-handling unit includes at least one base member having a top surface and a bottom surface opposite the top surface and a skin having opposed surfaces.     • In a chiller system, an electronic control transformer is powered by the DC link of a variable speed drive that drives a compressor motor. The electronic control transformer converts the DC voltage to a constant 120 VAC at 60 Hz, for providing power to auxiliary electrical devices associated with the chiller system. The electronic transformer includes four semiconductor switches to convert the DC voltage to AC. The energy stored in the compressor motor is transferred to the DC link of the VSD during an input voltage sag. The electronic control transformer maintains the control voltage and prevents the system auxiliary loads from dropping out during a voltage sag. The chiller system is able to ride through the input voltage sag or interruption. A boost converter may be provided at the input of the VSD to increase ride through capability.
