    • A method for preparing a ferrule assembly avoids polishing while providing adequate control over fiber end protrusion and co-planarity. A distal end of the fiber is prepared before securing the fiber in a ferrule, and before or after inserting the fiber into the ferrule. The prepared fiber is manipulated to provide a desired spatial relationship between the fiber end and the ferrule's end face, and then secured to maintain the desired spatial relationship. Preferably, the fiber end is prepared using a laser cleaving technique to provide a suitable end without abrasive polishing. An interferometer may be used to obtain measurements, during manipulation of the prepared fiber within the ferrule, that indicate whether the prepared fiber is satisfactorily positioned. In accordance with other aspects of the invention, a ferrule assembly prepared in accordance with the method, and a connector or other optical package including such a ferrule assembly are provided.

    • A high voltage (HV) header assembly includes an outer housing having a right angle body including a first segment and a second segment oriented perpendicularly to the first segment. The first segment has a mating interface at a distal end for mating with a plug assembly. The second segment has a mounting flange at a distal end for mounting to a device. The second segment extends from the first segment such that the mounting flange is oriented perpendicularly to the mating interface. The body defines a right angle chamber extending through the first and second segments between the mating interface and the mounting flange. The chamber has first and second openings therethrough in the first and second segments, respectively. HV contacts are received in the chamber of the outer housing and are configured to electrically connect to plug contacts of the plug assembly.

    • A circuit protection device includes a substrate with first and second electrodes connected to the circuit to be protected. The circuit protection device also includes a heater element between the first and second electrodes. A sliding contact is connected by a sensing element to the first electrode, second electrode, and heater element, thereby bridging and providing a conductive path between each. A spring element is held in tension by, and exerts a force parallel to a length of the substrate against, the sliding contact. Upon detection of an activation condition, the sensing element releases the sliding contact and the force exerted by the spring element moves the sliding contact to another location on the substrate at which the sliding contact no longer provides a conductive path between the first electrode, second electrode, and heater element.

    • A receptacle assembly includes multiple receptacle guide frames configured to be coupled to a host board. Each receptacle guide frame has a front end and a back end.
