    • A system and method for wireless communication over multi-rate channels are disclosed. One embodiment of the system operates on wake-up schedules for power saving. The system includes a first multi-band wireless station that is capable of using a first frequency band and a second frequency band for wireless communication; and a second multi-band wireless station that is capable of using the first frequency band and the second frequency band for wireless communication. One or more of the first and second stations is configured to maintain therein one or more wake-up schedules on the second frequency band of one or more of the first station, the second station, and an access point. The first and second stations are configured to share the one or more wake-up schedules with each other via the first frequency band. The system allows the stations to effectively associate with each other, thereby saving power.

    • A system and method for providing spatial reuse in a wireless network for communicating compressed and uncompressed audio/video is disclosed. A bandwidth reservation request for data communication with a receiver to a coordinator is transmitted. A first response indicating availability of the receiver for the data communication is received. A channel is listened to by a station for channel busy indication (CBI) messages transmitted by other stations in the wireless network. A local channel occupation report comprising data indicative of one or more time periods during which one or more other stations in the wireless network are scheduled to transmit data messages is transmitted to the coordinator. A second response comprising data indicative of one or more allocated channel time slots is received. Audio and/or video (A/V) data is transmitted to the receiver during the allocated channel time slots.

    • A method and system of radio frequency (RF) power transmission among multiple wireless stations is provided. Control signals for switching a receiving station between a power reception mode and a data reception mode are generated. The control signals provide switching information about which of the modes to switch to, and timing of the switching. In the data reception mode, the receiving station processes an RF transmission from a sending station as a data communication. In the power reception mode the receiving station processes the RF transmission as energy radiation for powering the receiving station. One type of control signal for power mode switching is generated at the MAC layer of a receiving station and sent to the PHY layer of that station for power mode switching. Another type is RTS/CTS control signal exchanged between the sending and receiving stations.

One embodiment of the invention allows time and power to be saved by spreading a training sequence with spreading sequences of different gains in different iterations of an iterative beamforming acquisition procedure. In one embodiment of the invention, the method comprises modulating, at a first station, a first training sequence with a first source beamforming vector, wherein the first training sequence has a first spreading gain, transmitting the modulated first training sequence to a second station, receiving a first response signal from the second station, obtaining a second source beamforming vector based on the first response signal, modulating, at the first station, a second training sequence with the second source beamforming vector, wherein the second training signal has a second spreading gain which is different from the first spreading gain, transmitting the modulated second training sequence to the second station, receiving a second response signal from the second station, obtaining a third source beamforming vector based on the second response signal, and determining whether to use the third source beamforming vector to modulate a data signal to be transmitted to the second station.

    • A system and method for discovering and tracking communication directions is disclosed herein. In one embodiment, communication directions for two devices with asymmetric antenna systems are discovered. In one embodiment, a contention access period (CAP) is partitioned into an association CAP and a regular CAP, either of which may be further partitioned into sub-CAPs corresponding to different reception directions. In one embodiment, an association request command is transmitted by a device at different association sub-CAPs to train a transmission direction of the device. In one embodiment, further training is performed to find the best communication directions, as collisions may occur when association request commands are transmitted at different association sub-CAPs.
