    • A page routing system comprises a communication transceiver and a processing system, wherein a wireless communication network comprises a plurality of paging zones and each of the paging zones comprises a plurality of sectors. The communication transceiver is configured to transmit pages to the paging zones for delivery to wireless communication devices located in the sectors and to receive page responses from the paging zones that were transferred by the wireless communication devices located in the sectors. The processing system is configured to determine page utilization for each of the paging zones, to track the page responses per-sector for each of the wireless communication devices, to receive a new page for one of the wireless communication devices in one of the paging zones, and if the page utilization for the one paging zone exceeds a zone threshold, then to select a target one of the sectors in the one paging zone for page delivery based on the page responses per-sector for the one wireless communication device.

    • What is disclosed is a method of operating a wireless access node, where the wireless access node provides a wireless communication service to wireless communication devices after registration. The method includes monitoring a wireless access channel of the wireless access node for registration attempts of the wireless communication devices during a first time period and detecting a threshold amount of noise occurring on the wireless access channel after the first time period. The method also includes, in response to detecting the threshold amount of noise, processing the first time period and data related to the threshold amount of noise to determine a second time period. The method also includes, in response to determining the second time period, monitoring the access channel for additional registration attempts of the wireless communication devices during the second time period.

    • A method and system is disclosed for variable persistence delay in access terminals receiving a concatenate page message. When an access terminal (e.g., a mobile station or wireless communication device) receives a page message that it determines is part of a concatenated page message, the access terminal will compute a backoff delay and a persistence delay according to delay parameters selected based upon the determination. According to an example embodiment, the access terminal will use the place-order of the received page record in the concatenation of page records in the page message to select values of the delay parameters. Other access terminals receiving the same concatenated page message will similarly select delay parameters. By associating the delay parameter values with place-order in the concatenated page message, each access terminal may used different values, and thereby compute different delays.

    • A method and system is disclosed for triggered operation of a variable auxiliary pilot based on RF conditions. An access terminal operating in a wireless communication system may switch on its auxiliary pilot in response to receiving a first threshold number of power-up commands from a serving base station. Responsive to thereafter receiving each of a second threshold number of power-up commands, the access terminal may increment the gain of its auxiliary pilot while holding the gain of its primary pilot fixed. The access terminal thereby sets its auxiliary pilot gain independently of its primary pilot gain for a select number of power-control commands. The access terminal may respond to subsequent power-control commands by responsively adjusting the gain of it primary pilot, and linking the gain of its auxiliary pilot to the gain of its primary pilot. Upon receiving a third threshold number of power-down commands, the access terminal may switch off its auxiliary pilot.

    • A method and system is disclosed for dynamic adjustment of threshold payload size for triggering an auxiliary pilot. An access terminal in a wireless communication system that includes a base station may operate in a state in which (i) the access terminal transmits a primary beacon signal on an air interface communication link to the base station, and, (ii) upon a condition that the access terminal will transmit a packet having a size larger than a threshold packet size, the access terminal activates and transmits a secondary beacon signal on the air interface communication link to the base station concurrently with transmission of the primary beacon signal. While operating in the state, upon receiving a first particular sequence of power-control commands from the base station, the access terminal will decrease the threshold packet size by a decremental amount. Also while operating in the state, upon receiving a second particular sequence of power-control commands from the base station, the access terminal will increase the threshold packet size by an incremental amount.

The method includes, while at an initial location, entering a first wireless communication mode that requires tuning to a first frequency spectrum. In response to entering the first wireless communication mode, the method includes setting a timer for monitoring a second wireless communication mode. When the timer expires, the method includes determining if a present location of the wireless communication device is beyond a threshold distance from the initial location. If the present location is beyond the threshold distance from the initial location, then the method includes tuning away from the first frequency spectrum to a second frequency spectrum for the second wireless communication mode and monitoring information for the second wireless communication mode, and if the present location is not beyond the threshold distance from the initial location, then resetting the timer for monitoring the second wireless communication mode.
