    • A method for determining the absolute angle of an angle position sensor over a predetermined rotation range and in which the sensor generates a repeating periodic analog signal across the rotation range. The initial position of the sensor is stored in memory when the sensor is in a predetermined initial angular position. Thereafter, the angular position of the sensor within the rotation range is determined as a function of both the sensor output signal and the stored angular position of the sensor. The current position of the sensor is iteratively stored in memory. Additionally, the sensor output is calibrated by dividing the sensor output into a plurality of arc segments across the rotation range. A polynomial curve fit is then applied to each arc segment to determine the calibration for the sensor and this calibration data is subsequently utilized to provide a signal representative of the absolute angle of the position sensor over the rotation range.

    • A stroke determination unit for a 4-cycle engine uses intake pressure as a parameter to provide accurate stroke determination. A combined pressure combines the detected pressures of intake ports of the first to third cylinders, and stroke determination is carried out by recognizing, within a combined pressure waveform based on a detection value for the combined pressure, shapes of the combined pressure waveform for a specified phase period of a crankshaft. The pressure pattern recognition is carried out by storing variation patterns of pressure values measured within the specified crankshaft phase period, and collating patterns with a data map stored within an ECU. Alternatively, the pattern recognition is carried out by collating with condition equations representing “rising” or “upward peak”. With the latter, pressure variation due to contamination such as electrical noise to the pressure sensor is made negligible, and noise suppression of the stroke determination unit is improved.

    • A non-contact position sensor having improved rotational angle measuring accuracy is provided. A magnet is attached To a rotating shaft. An angle sensor element detects magnetic field changes generated from the magnet due to rotation of the rotating shaft. A signal processor, on the basis of a temperature detected by a temperature sensor, corrects variance between the sensors including the sensor element, the signal processor, and the magnet by correcting an amplitude value and/or an offset value of a signal or variance due to time of the amplitude value. The sensor element 1 outputs the first and second outputs v1 and v2 and the signal processor obtains the temperature coefficients of the amplitude values of the output v1 and output v2, or the temperature coefficients of the offset values, or the coefficients of variance due to time of the amplitude values, obtains the ratio of the first and second outputs corrected by these coefficients, and calculates the angle using the corrected ratio.
