    • A telecommunications device comprises a transceiver (33); a radio link control entity (50); and, a radio link control (RLC) buffer memory (150). The transceiver (33) which enables the device to communicate over an air interface (32). The radio link control entity (50) forms uplink RLC protocol data units (PDUs) for transmission over the air interface (32) and receives downlink RLC protocol data units (PDUs) over the air interface (32). The radio link control (RLC) buffer memory (150) is configured to include a transmitter buffer for storing the uplink RLC protocol data units (PDUs) and a receiver buffer for storing the downlink RLC protocol data units (PDUs). The radio link control entity includes RLC reconfiguration logic means (200) which reconfigures at least one of a size of a transmitter buffer window and a size of a receiver buffer window. In performing the reconfiguration, the RLC reconfiguration logic means implements a strategy for handling at least one of (1) downlink RLC protocol data units (PDUs) which are outside a new receiver buffer window; and (2) uplink RLC protocol data units (PDUs) which are either outside a new transmitter window or whose receipt by the radio access network has not been positively acknowledged.

    • Procedures are provided for the establishment of MBMS services in different cells of a cellular telecommunications network, in particular, for maintaining the transmission of MBMS data to a particular user equipment, even when it moves from one cell to another when the service is provided in different ways in different cells. In particular, when a user equipment receives a multimedia data service in a first cell via a certain type of connection (i.e., a point-to-point connection/while requiring an RRC Connection, a point-to-multipoint connection without/while requiring an RRC Connection), and moves to a second cell where the type of connection used to provide the service is different, specific actions are undertaken (e.g., request for an RRC Connection, release of an RRC Connection, etc.), depending on the type of connection change carried out. Embodiments for the establishment of the most adequate connection (p-t-p, p-t-m) in a cell are disclosed as well (e.g., by sending a message from a SRNC to a CRNC).

    • A telecommunications network simplifies data flow and signaling by having a second control node (262) of a radio access network transmit cell information to a first control node (261) only when the cell information is not already known by the first control node. The invention is facilitated by a cell configuration generation index (CCGI). The cell configuration generation index (CCGI) represents a set of cell information parameters deemed current for a specified cell by a control node. In one example embodiment, the cell configuration generation index (CCGI)is a counter whose value is changed when configuration data of the specified cell is changed. In one example scenario, a cell identifier for the specified cell and the first control node's CCGI for the specified cell are included in a request message sent from the first control node to the second control node. If the second control node determines that the first control node's CCGI for the specified cell is current, no cell information for the specified cell need be sent by the second control node to the first control node in response. However, if the second control node determines that the first control node's CCGI for the specified cell is not current, the second control node includes in a response message both (1) the cell information deemed current by the second control node for the specified cell; and (2) second control node's CCGI (which is current and accurate) for the specified cell.
