    • An airbag module for a motor vehicle. The airbag module includes an airbag. The airbag includes an airbag sleeve enclosing an interior of the airbag. The airbag module further comprises a module receptacle on which the airbag is accommodated as an airbag package, a top surface, and a cover extending along the top surface. When the airbag module is installed, the top surface is arranged such that it faces the associated seat. At least one layer of the airbag forming a component of the airbag sleeve extends in front of the outer surface of the cover facing the seat. Components of the airbag module arranged in front of the outer surface of the cover, insofar as they are not located between the outer surface of the cover and the at least one airbag layer, remain connected to the airbag sleeve during inflation of the airbag.

    • To speed up the inflation of a second chamber of an airbag that is portioned into a first chamber including an inflator and the second chamber enclosing the first chamber and to facilitate the design of adjusting the shape and thickness of the inflated airbag, an airbag and airbag system are disclosed. In one form, the airbag includes therein first and second inner panels to partition the interior of the airbag into a first chamber and a second chamber that encloses the first chamber. The second inner panel has communication holes for communicating the first chamber and the second chamber with each other. The outer peripheries of the inner panels are joined together with a seam. A jet of gas emitted from gas ports of the inflator is supplied directly into the second chamber through the communication holes.

    • An air bag with a control device that provides for the adjustment of a predetermined inner air bag pressure. The air bag control device is comprised of a sheet having an opening located over a vent hole penetrating an air bag rear panel and joined to the edge of the vent hole. A first half and a second half of the sheet are joined together with a joiner, thereby closing the vent hole. This joiner is configured to release when the inner pressure of the -air bag attains or exceeds a predetermined value. When the predetermined inner pressure is attained, the tear seam breaks and the vent hole is opened.

    • An airbag has a first inner panel and a second inner panel arranged substantially in a concentric relation with a front panel and a rear panel in an interior of an airbag, and outer peripheral edge portions are stitched to each other by a high-strength seam. A center portion of the first inner panel is stitched to a center portion of the front panel by a seam. A center portion of the second inner panel is connected to a center portion of the rear panel by a retaining ring. The second inner panel is formed with a communication port between a first chamber and a second chamber. Midsections of the inner panels between the outer peripheral edge portions and the center portions are connected by a tear seam. The tear seam is adapted to be broken when the pressure in the first chamber reaches a predetermined pressure.
