    • A liquid crystal panel unit is provided on the light incident face of a prism combining body. The unit has a light valve frame plate for holding a liquid crystal panel and a fixing frame plate fixed onto the light incident face with an adhesive layer. The light valve frame plate is screwed onto the fixing frame plate with a medial frame therebetween. By using wedge members, by adjusting the position of the light valve frame plate on the light incident face, it is possible to precisely position and fix the liquid crystal panel which is held there so that it is possible to control the shifted amount of the pixel alignment and precisely adjust the focus. Thus, it is possible to easily improve the accuracy. Furthermore, the fixing frame plate and the light valve frame plate are composed of materials having linear expansion coefficients ranging from ¼ to four times that of the prism combining body and from ⅕ to five times that of the fixing frame plate, respectively.

    • A unit is provided for mounting an electro-optical device, such a liquid crystal panel, on a prism so that aberration in picture elements is suppressed so as not to deteriorate image quality. The unit for mounting an electro-optical device includes an electro-optical-device supporting frame, and a fixing pin for fixing the supporting frame to a face of a prism by an adhesive. The unit includes an absorbing structure disposed between the supporting frame and the fixing pin, for absorbing the difference between the deformation of the supporting frame caused by heat and the strength of the adhesive applied to the fixing pin. The absorbing structure absorbs the effects of thermal expansion of the supporting frame, thereby suppressing the displacement of the electro-optical device caused by the heat generated during the use of the projector.

    • To provide a projector in which the quality of projected images does not deteriorate when the size of the projector is reduced. A light shielding member for shielding leakage light from gaps between each liquid crystal panel, and a crossed dichroic prism toward a projection lens side is provided. The leakage light from the gaps between each liquid crystal panel and the crossed dichroic prism can be shielded, and only the luminous flux emitted by the crossed dichroic prism can be applied to the projection lens, whereby the quality of projected images does not deteriorate when the device is reduced in size.
