    • An image display device incorporates a group of pixels of two or more types, each pixel including a light source whose primary wavelength is specific to the type of pixel; a generating device for generating analog pixel signals to be input to the group of pixels from input digital pixel data, wherein the generating device has a converter to convert input digital pixel data into different output digital pixel data appropriate for each type of pixel where the output digital pixel data contains more bits than the input digital pixel data; and an input device for inputting the analog pixel signals to the group of pixels, each pixel including a light emission driver for driving the light source according to the analog pixel signal. An organic EL display device having individual R, G, and B light emission elements enables displaying in desired colors and controllable tones with reduced packaging area for the components of the organic EL display.

    • The present invention provides an image display capable of performing high-precision multi-gradation display while avoiding problems of a subtle noise and increase in a drive frequency. Display signal data of one frame is constructed by a plurality of sub frames of, for example, four sub frames 1/4 to 4/4. The 1/4 frame is set as an address period of an analog signal, the 2/4 frame is set as an analog gradation display period, the 3/4 frame is set as an address period of a digital signal, and the 4/4 frame is set as a digital gradation light emission period. The image display is constructed in such a manner that, in the analog gradation display period, an OLED device in a pixel emits light of time according to an analog signal voltage stored in a storage capacitor in the pixel by an analog drive signal circuit and, in the digital gradation display period, a binary light emitting operation of light emission and non light emission is performed according to a digital signal voltage stored in the storage capacitor by a digital signal driving circuit.

    • An object is to eliminate fixed pattern noise due to unevenness or variation of the threshold voltages in DA converters and buffer circuits, when forming a pixel portion integrated with a peripheral driver circuit, including the DA converters, by using polycrystalline Si TFT. For that purpose, a pixel common electrodes is provided independently for each of a signal line, and an output of the buffer circuit is connected to both the common electrode and the signal electrode through a switch. With this, the variation of the threshold voltages in the buffer circuits are cancelled between the common electrode and the signal electrode, thereby enabling to remove the above-mentioned fixed pattern noise therefrom.
