    • A coupling lens couples a light flux from a light source to form a parallel light flux, a convergent light flux or a divergent light flux. An optical deflector includes a deflective reflection surface which deflects the light flux from the coupling lens at a uniform angular velocity. A scanning image-formation optical system converges the deflected light flux received from the optical deflector on a surface to be scanned to form a beam spot. The device scans the surface to be scanned with the beam spot at a uniform velocity. A depth increasing component, increases the depth of focus determined by the entire optical system of the device, on the optical path between the light source and the deflective reflection surface.

    • The present invention relates to an optical writing device and an image forming apparatus and method in which the optical writing device is provided. In the optical writing device of the invention, a light source array has an array of light sources emitting a plurality of light beams. A focusing lens array has a row of focusing lens elements focusing the light beams from the light source array onto a surface of a photosensitive medium, the focusing lens elements being arrayed in an array direction, each focusing lens element having a visual field radius X in the array direction and a diameter D in the array direction. The focusing lens array is configured to satisfy the condition: m>2.0 where m is an overlap ratio of each of the focusing lens elements defined by the equation m=X/D.

    • Disclosure is made of a process for producing materials for fish paste products which comprises the step 1 of milling a frozen ground fish meat to thereby give a frozen ground fish meat in the form of fine particles having a diameter of 1 mm or less, thawing a frozen ground fish meat under milling to thereby give a thawed ground fish meat in the form of fine particles, or thawing a frozen ground fish meat and then cutting it to thereby give a thawed ground fish meat, and the step 2 of mixing under stirring the ground fish meat obtained in the step 1 with the use of a stirring means, provided that a cake mixer is employed as the stirring means, when a frozen ground fish meat is thawed to give thawed ground fish meat in the step 1. Use of this process makes it possible to efficiently provide materials ensuring the production of fish paste products with good qualities, e.g. improved gel strength.

    • A catalyst for reforming of methanol to hydrogen and carbon monoxide, which is high in activity, selectivity and durability. The catalyst utilizes a granular or monolithic carrier of which the principal material is active alumina. First the carrier is coated with a mixture of cerium oxide and zirconium oxide, preferably by pyrolysis of a cerium salt and a zirconium salt applied to the carrier as a mixed solution. Then either Pt or Pd, or both, is deposited on the coated carrier preferably by pyrolysis of a platinum or palladium compound applied to the carrier as a solution. After that the nearly finished catalyst is treated with a solution of a reducing agent such as sodium boron hydride or hydrazine to render the deposited Pt and/or Pd substantially completely reduced.
