摘要： This invention is a method of downlink, multiuser, multiple input, multiple output communication between a single base station and plural user equipment. Resource buffers are distributed into sub-bands. Each user equipment is assigned to a sub-band with at least one sub-band assigned plural user equipment. The base station transmits user equipment according to assigned sub-bands. A single user equipment may be assigned one sub-band while plural user equipment are assigned to another sub-band. In one embodiment the base station has N transmit antennas. N user equipment is assigned to a first sub-band and less than N user equipment is assigned to a second sub-band. In another embodiment a first second user equipment is assigned a first sub-band and the first and a third user equipment are assigned to a second sub-band.

In one embodiment, the transmitter has at least three transmit antennas and includes a feedback decoding portion configured to recover at least one group-based channel quality indicator provided by a feedback signal from a receiver, wherein each group-based channel quality indicator corresponds to one of a set of transmission layer groupings. The transmitter also includes a modulator portion configured to generate at least one symbol stream and a mapping portion configured to multiplex each symbol stream to at least one transmission layer grouping. The transmitter further includes a pre-coder portion configured to couple the transmission layers to the transmit antennas for a transmission. The receiver includes a decoder portion which is configured to use decoded signals from at least one group to decode the other groups.

摘要： Embodiments of the invention provide methods for maximizing the bandwidth utilization in the uplink of a communication system supporting time division multiplexing between unicast and multicast/broadcast communication modes during transmission time intervals in the downlink of a communication system. This is accomplished by multiplexing at least unicast control signaling for UL scheduling assignments in TTIs supporting the multicast/broadcast communication mode. Moreover, multiplexing of unicast control signaling can also be accomplished by splitting a symbol of the multicast/broadcast TTI into two shorter symbols with the first of these two shorter symbols carrying at least unicast control signaling and the second of these shorter symbols carrying multicast/broadcast signaling.
