    • An inkjet printing apparatus for printing continuous tone images on a receiver in response to a digital image, including a structure defining a plurality of colorant or colorant precursor receiving chambers, and another structure defining at least one mixing chamber for receiving a plurality of microdrops of colorants or colorant precursors from the colorant or colorant precursor receiving chambers to produce a desired colorant. The apparatus further includes a microdrop nozzle for each receiving chamber and in communication with the mixing chamber and a printing nozzle for each mixing chamber for causing a mixed drop to be delivered to the receiver. Further, the ejection of the desired number of microdrops is controlled and in response to the digital image and connected to the receiving chamber and the mixing chamber and for causing the desired number of microdrops to be ejected into the mixing chamber and then ejecting a mixed drop of colorant from the mixing chamber through the printing nozzle to the receiver.

    • An image producing method and apparatus is described which, in response to a stored image file, prints a plurality of microfluidic printing pixels on a display is disclosed. The apparatus includes a plurality of ink delivery chambers, a look-up-table for converting code values corresponding to each pixel of the input image file to ink volumes to be pumped into the ink delivery chamber by microfluidic pumps, and computes the ink volumes of the inks to be pumped into each ink chamber from the code values of the corresponding pixels of the input image file. The apparatus further computes pump parameters for pumping inks of the correct volumes into each ink chamber according to the code values at each pixel of the input image file, and in response to the computed pump parameters pumps the correct amount of inks into each ink chamber, and the ink will be used to form an image pixel on the display.

    • A color thermal dye transfer printer that produces superposed color plane images of varying image densities on a receiver medium includes a printhead movable in a print direction relative to the receiver medium to produce images on the receiver medium at a printing rate, the images being of selectable resolution along the print direction.     • A chemically and spectrally sensitized ultrathin tabular grain emulsion is disclosed including tabular grains (a) having {111} major faces, (b) containing greater than 70 mole percent bromide, based on silver, (c) accounting for greater than 90 percent of total grain projected area, (d) exhibiting an average equivalent circular diameter of at least 0.7 .mu.m, and (e) exhibiting an average thickness of less than 0.07 .mu.m.It has been observed that increased speed and contrast as well as improvements in speed-granularity relationships can be realized when the surface chemical sensitization sites include epitaxially deposited silver halide protrusions forming epitaxial junctions with the tabular grains, the protrusions (a) being located on up to 50 percent of the surface area of the tabular grains, (b) having a higher overall solubility than at least that portion of the tabular grains forming epitaxial junctions with the protrusions, and (c) forming a face centered cubic crystal lattice.In further improving photographic performance by incorporating a photographically useful dopant, it has been observed that thinner tabular grains can be realized by locating the dopant in the protrusions. Still further improvements in photographic sensitivity can be realized by selecting the dopant to act as a shallow trap for photoelectrons.
