    • A lash adjuster in a valve actuator includes a lifter body having an end plate having its top surface in contact with a cam and formed with a threaded hole in its bottom surface. An adjuster screw is inserted in the threaded hole with its external thread in engagement with the internal thread of the threaded hole. An elastic member is mounted in the threaded hole over the adjuster screw to bias the adjuster screw axially downward. Both of the threads have a sawtooth-shaped section with its pressure flank having a greater flank angle than its clearance flank. One of the pressure flanks is formed with a satin-finished rugged surface which is covered by a hard film which is non-reactive with a low-friction oil. With this arrangement, even after the threads have become worn, the friction coefficient between the thread surfaces is kept substantially constant.

    • An electric brake assembly includes an electric motor having a rotor in which a nut of a ball screw is fitted. To the front end of the threaded shaft of the ball screw, one of the brake pads is coupled through a presser member. A bolt is threaded into the rear end of the threaded shaft with its small-diameter portion protruding from the rear end of the threaded shaft. A snap ring is mounted around the large-diameter portion of the bolt with its radially outer edge pressed against the radially inner surface of the rotor of the motor so that its radially outer portion is inclined obliquely rearwardly toward its radially outer edge. Thus, when the rotor is rotated in the forward rotational direction, the threaded shaft can move forwardly, thereby pressing the brake pads against the disc rotor disposed between the brake pads. But when the motor is deactivated in this state, the threaded shaft cannot retract after it has abutted the snap ring because the snap ring cannot move rearwardly relative to the rotor.

    • A sealed rolling bearing is proposed which makes it possible to reduce the torque loss while ensuring high sealing performance. Seal lips of seal members secured to the outer ring of the bearing at both ends thereof are in sliding contact with both ends of the outer periphery of the inner ring of the bearing. These portions of the inner ring that are in sliding contact with the seal lips are subjected to minute shot peening in which minute shots of molybdenum disulfide having a particle diameter of 20 to 200 micrometers are struck against these portions at a high speed of 50 meters per second. This decreases the friction torque attendant to sliding contact of the seal lips and makes it possible to decrease the torque loss of the bearing even if the contact pressure of the seal lips is increased sufficiently to ensure high sealing performance.

    • In a heat exchanger for performing heat exchange between a first fluid and a second fluid, a corrugated plate is provided in a first tube defining a first fluid passage through which the first fluid flows. The corrugated plate forms ridges and grooves. Walls between the ridges and grooves include first walls, second walls and third walls. Each first wall defines an opening between its second end and a second side wall of the first tube. Each second wall defines openings at its first and second ends. Each third wall defines an opening between its first end and the first side wall of the first tube. The first to third walls are reiterative in an order of the first wall, the second wall, the third wall and the second wall. Therefore, the first fluid makes double serpentine flows each of which makes alternately large and small turns.

    • In a decompression device-integrated heat exchanger, a pressure-reducing unit for reducing high-pressure refrigerant of a refrigerant cycle, and an inner heat-exchanging unit for performing heat-exchange between high-pressure refrigerant before being decompressed in the pressure-reducing unit and low-pressure refrigerant after being decompressed in the pressure reducing unit are integrated to each other. The inner heat-exchanging unit has a high-pressure tube through which high-pressure refrigerant flows, and a low-pressure tube through which low-pressure refrigerant flows. Both the tubes are wound around a case of the pressure-reducing unit, and are brazed to the case on contacting portions therebetween. Further, in each tube, wall thickness of the contacting portion is made thinner than that of the other portion. Thus, the decompression device-integrated heat exchanger has a reduced weight, while having a simple structure.

    • A heat exchanger has plural flat tubes through which refrigerant flows, and a pair of header tanks disposed on each longitudinal ends of the flat tubes. Each of the flat tubes has a flow passage portion having plural flow passages through which refrigerant flows, and a non-flow passage portion disposed on both sides of the flow passage portion, having at least one non-flow passage through which no refrigerant flows. The flow passage portion is inserted into the header tank so that the flow passages communicate with the header tank, and the non-flow passage portion is exposed outside the header tank. Each of the flow passages has a circular-shaped cross-section while the non-flow passage has a polygonal-shaped cross-section, so that a wall thickness of the non-flow passage is made thinner than that of the flow passages. Therefore, weight of the flat tube is decreased, while sufficient strength thereof is maintained. On the other hand, the header tank has an inner partition wall for partitioning the header tank into first and second tank passages having an oval-shaped cross-section, so that the header tank has high pressure resistance.
