    • A camera which provides accurate prediction of future field position accompanying the movement of a photographic subject. The future field position is predicted based upon focus detection results taken during a short time period and during a long time period relative to a predetermined time period. A selection of the focus detection results taken either during the short time period or during the long time period, used to predict future field position, is made based upon parameters which indicate at least one of field movement speed, field movement acceleration, focal length of the photographic lens, and focusing distance. The focus adjustment device is capable of discriminating between a sudden change in field position and a gradual change in field position in order to modify the method by which prediction of future field position is performed. Additionally, the focus detection device performs prediction of future field position accurately when photography is performed in rapid succession.

    • A focus detecting device for detecting the focus adjusted state of an imaging optical system with respect to an object body comprises first and second photoelectric element arrays each including a plurality of photoelectric elements arranged in one direction, a focus detecting optical system for forming first and second optical images of the body on or near the first and second arrays by first and second light beams passed through different first and second areas, respectively, of the exit pupil of the imaging optical system, the first array producing a series of first output signals having a distribution pattern associated with the illumination intensity distribution pattern of the first image, the second array producing a series of second output signals having a distribution pattern associated with the illumination intensity distribution pattern of the second image, focus detection means for producing a focus detection signal representative of the focus adjusted state of the imaging optical system, on the basis of the first and second output signals, and vignetting detection means for detecting, on the basis of the first and second output signals, the vignetting influence of the first and second output signals by the vignetting of the first and second images caused by the imaging optical system.

    • A distance measuring apparatus is provided with first and second imaging lenses for distance measurement for forming images of the same object, a first photoelectric device having a light-receiving surface for receiving the first image by the first imaging lens for distance measurement, a second photoelectric device having a light-receiving surface for receiving the second image by the second imaging lens for distance measurement, and varying means for varying the relative position of the light-receiving surface of the first photoelectric device and the first image thereon and the relative position of the light-receiving surface of the second photoelectric device and the second image thereon. The apparatus detects the distance to the object from the fact that the two relative positions have assumed a predetermined relation. The varying means varies the length of the optical path between the first imaging lens for distance measurement and the light-receiving surface of the first photoelectric device and the length of the optical path between the second imaging lens for distance measurement and the light receiving surface of the second photoelectric device in association with each other, at least one of the two relative positions is varied by said variation, and the first and second images on the light-receiving surfaces of the first and second photoelectric devices which were not clear when the two relative positions were not in said predetermined relation are made clear when the two relative positions have assumed said predetermined relation.
