    • A metal oxide varistor with heat protection has a body, an insulated washer, a first lead, a second lead and a thermal fuse. The body has two sides and two contacts respectively on the sides. The insulated washer is attached to one contact and has a through hole. The first lead is mounted on the other contact. The second lead is mounted on the insulated washer. The thermal fuse is mounted on the insulated washer and electrically connects to the second lead and the second contact. When the body overloads and overheats, the thermal fuse causes the circuit to open quickly, and the insulated washer keeps the thermal fuse from electrically connecting to the second contact again.

    • A USB storage system is adapted to store data and exchange the stored data with an electronic apparatus via a universal serial bus (USB), and includes a memory having a control file folder containing at least one control file pre-stored thereon, the control file having a command data pre-stored therein corresponding to a control command of the storage system; and a controller for controlling data transmission between the memory and the USB. When the electronic apparatus accesses the control file via the USB, the controller executes a control command corresponding to the accessed control file according to the pre-stored command data. A method of controlling the storage system via the USB of the electronic apparatus is also provided to permit a user without the authority of an administrator to give a vendor command to the storage system, so that the functions of an access device can be conveniently utilized.

    • An apparatus and method for fabricating a high performance reflective material for use on scintillator elements in a computed tomograph (CT) imaging device. Adjacent scintillator elements are separated by gaps filled with a reflective coating layer. In one embodiment, the reflective coating layer consists of a surface level coating layer, an adhesion layer, a metallic reflective layer, and a top layer consisting of either a barrier coating layer or a polymeric encapsulant, or both. In another embodiment, the metallic reflective coating layer is applied to the scintillator element via an electroless metal deposition process utilizing a reducing agent and a metal complex. The CT reflectors formed by either embodiment have improved light output, minimized cross talk, higher geometric efficiency, and decreased performance degradation as compared with current CT reflectors that utilize organic binders and titanium dioxide fillers is achieved.

    • A portable data storage device includes a first storage unit having a data storing zone and a reserved zone for bad blocks in the first storage unit, and a second storage unit having a look-up table. The look-up table lists a number of configuration modes for the portable data storage device, each defining specific allocation sizes for the reserved zone and the data storing zone. The portable data storage device is configured to use a kth configuration mode. A method for dynamic memory management includes: i) determining a number of the bad blocks assigned to the reserved zone; ii) with reference to the look-up table, determining if this number is greater than a limit associated with the kth configuration mode; and iii) if so, reconfiguring the portable data storage device to use a (k+1)th configuration mode.
